Abhishek Banerjee lays the foundation stone for Diamond Harbour Riverfront Beautification Project

The State Government has taken up a plan to beautify various places in and around Diamond Harbour to attract more tourists all year round. Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee laid the foundation stone of the project at a ceremony today.

1.5 km stretch along the river Hooghly from the Jetty Ghat to Kellar Math will be beautified.

Highlights of Abhishek Banerjee’s speech:

We have laid the foundation stone for Diamond Harbour Riverfront Beautification Project today. You all were witness; one year ago I had come to Diamond Harbour with the MoS of Tourism Department. We has conceptualised this project back then. The irrigation department, state government and few departments of the Centre have land here from Jetty Ghat till Kellar Ghat. We wanted to beautify this stretch. But as you know, Centre does not want to cooperate with Bangla and always deprives the State. We are still going ahead with the project on land owned by the State.

Process of development won’t stop. Work will commence on 1.5 km land owned by irrigation department. In the first phase, work will begin from Jetty Ghat till Kellar Ghat. Work in Bangla will not come to a standstill based on the whims of Centre. People elected Mamata Banerjee, they love and support her. No one can stop the tide of development. People of Diamond Harbour want progress. We will not bow our heads down.

When I decided to contest Lok Sabha polls in 2014, I had promised that based on my limited capacity, I will carry on the work of development. You will be happy to know that the Centre, not even the State Government, has acknowledged that Diamond Harbour is number one. I published a booklet ‘Nishabda Biplab’ on June 6, 2016 giving an account of every penny spent from my MPLAD funds. I did the same in 2017 and 2018 and will do so again in 2019.

For 34 years, politics had taken a precedent over governance in Bangla. Under Mamata Banerjee, we have seen economic reforms, development, idealism, honesty, peace and harmony in Bangla. Our leader has taught us to work for the people.

I will spend any amount of money required for Diamond Harbour’s progress. I seek your cooperation for the same. We had vowed to reconstruct the shops, save trees, renovate the temples in this area.

Bangla is a land of communal harmony. We do not believe in the politics of discrimination and division. We are warning them – do not play with fire. We do not indulge in religious politics. They used Swami Vivekananda’s name for 2014 campaign but did nothing for Belur Math thereafter. They talk of respecting Netaji’s legacy but have not declared a national holiday on his birth anniversary. Their party president stands on Swastika while addressing a rally. How are they the flag-bearers of Hinduism?

We will beautify the pavements from Kapathat till Sundar Taluk. It will cost Rs 10 crore. We will not deter from development. Mamata Banerjee has given Kanyashree, Sabuj Sathi, Rupashree, Gatidhara. She has given school bags, uniforms, shoes to school students. They are not even voters. Yet, Mamata Banerjee is working for them because she truly works for people, not just for politics.
