Food testing vans by KMC to hit the streets soon
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will soon introduce mobile food testing laboratories where anyone can get food samples tested for purity at a nominal cost. The move is aimed at strengthening the civic body’s drive to ensure quality food.
There will be a toll-free number, calling which citizens can get food samples arranged to be tested at these mobile laboratories. Both cooked and uncooked edible items, like milk, meat, spices, and others, can be tested. Foods from hotels and restaurants can also be tested at the mobile facilities.
Fees will be charged for the tests. The rates will vary according to the type of food, and they will be available at the vehicles.
