Bengal Govt to start operating houseboats for tourists before the Pujas

A new attraction awaits tourists coming to Bengal before Durga Puja. The Bengal Government as decided to start operating six houseboats. They would be run by the Tourism Department.
All the six houseboats have been named by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, well-known for her creative streak and her penchant for naming schemes and programmes of the Government.
Two of the houseboats would be operating on the Hooghly, from Babughat. They have been named Gangashree and Jalashree. Among the other four, the one to operate from Bonpukuria in Mukutmanipur block in Birbhum district has been named Mukutia.
These services would naturally lead to employment opportunities. Depending on the demand, the department is keeping its options open to increase the number of houseboats in future. The houseboats can also be used to host conferences.
