Bengal Govt to set up textile hub in Nangi

The Bengal Government is setting up another textile hub, this time at Nangi in the district of South 24 Parganas (Maheshtala block). This was recently announced by the Industry Minister Dr Amit Mitra.
This hub for facilitating garment manufacturers and traders would come up on an area of 9 lakh square feet. A common facility centre would also be set up at the hub. It will house design, laboratory and other facilities for facilitating the manufacturers.
According to the minister, at the readymade garments hub in Metiabruz, Kolkata, nearly 30,000 artisans and entrepreneurs, in both the organised and unorganised sectors, have been working. Ninety per cent of the artisans and entrepreneurs in Metiabruz though are unorganised.
Bengal generates over 5 lakh jobs in the garments and apparel manufacturing sector. The Trinamool Congress Government is leaving no stones unturned to bring the unorganised sector under an organised setup so that they get better margins and the manufactured products are of export standards.
Dr Mitra said that bank lending to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in the last year was Rs 44,000 crore, exceeding the target of Rs 38,000 crore set by the State Government.
