Crimes against women: Trinamool MPs demand exemplary punishment in Parliament

Participating in discussions on the increasing incidents of crimes against women in the country, Trinamool MPs in both Houses demanded exemplary punishment be meted out to the perpetrators.
Sukehndu Sekhar Ray said that in many cases, the police refuse to take a complaint when a woman approaches them. This is in violation of Supreme Court guidelines, he said, and demanded strong action against such erring police officials
Saugata Roy said that the House should take cognizance of this serious incident and the tremendous anger that is boiling within the minds of all sensible citizens of India. He added that the Central Government must immediately bring a law to make rape an offence punishable by only death sentence
Dr Santanu Sen said that strong steps must be taken by bringing legislations, by setting up fast-track courts and exemplary punishment must be given.
