Bengal has always shown the way to the world. In the last seven years, the State has set new milestones when it comes to the welfare of people.

In keeping with the theme of social welfare of citizens, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had launched the Eastern India’s first and country’s most modernised “Human Milk Bank” at SSKM Hospital in August, 2013.

It is equipped with pasteurization and most advanced milk collection, screening, processing, testing and storage facilities. The project is named “Madhur Sneha”.

Babies who are prematurely born, or are of very low birth weight, or those babies whose mothers are unable to feed directly can be recipients of banked milk from “Madhur Sneha”.

On the occasion of World Milk Day, Mamata Banerjee today tweeted: “Today is World Milk Day. Milk is essential to diets, especially of young children. I am happy to share that in 2013, we set up the first public sector breast milk bank ‘Madhur Sneha’ at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.”
