Why vote for the losing team, asks Mamata Banerjee at Gangarampur

Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee was at Gangarampur for her second meeting in the Balurghat constituency today. She stressed that the BJP had floundered during its tenure, failing to deliver on its promises. There were several reasons why the party and its allies would be losing across the country.

Here are the details:

The BJP leaders are like ‘boshonter kokil’ (only there in good times) – who only fly in and fly out for their own benefits.

Just wait for the poll results – BJP will get zero in almost every state. UP, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, everywhere. And in Bangla they will get nothing. So why vote for the losing team?

They know their situation and are trying to win votes with money. Do not fall into their trap.

So many people have come here, leaving their fields and homes, to attend this meeting.

I used to come to Gangarampur frequently. From my days in student politics to my tours of the area as head of the State administration, I have visited the place numerous times.

There was an occasion where we had to meet a fellow partyman who would be the candidate from Balurghat. We had to approach him late in night, door wouldn’t open, we had to scale the wall to meet him. We were young then….

We have done a lot here – stadiums, multi-gyms, handloom hub, industrial centres, bridges, roads, technical training colleges, multi-super specialty hospital, agricultural university, general university (coming up), ICUs, CCUs, HDUs, fair-price medicine shops and diagnostic centres, work under the 100 Days’ Work Scheme, airport, etc.

As Railway Minister, I had sanctioned several projects which were not implemented by the BJP government; if we come to power, I’ll ensure they are completed.

Some people work and some people just give gas. They are full of tall talk but do not deliver.

The CPI(M) had hardly done anything for the state. We had to take up the cudgels and carry out the work despite financial constraints

Now, which govt is giving you rice at Rs 2 a kg, free medicine and treatment, 100-days work… so many schemes – all being provided by our government.

Rabindranath Tagore, Nazrul Islam, Swami Vivekananda, Sri Ramakrishna and all our great political and religious leaders have written and spoken again and again about inter-religious unity, and the BJP has come here to destroy that.

What has BJP done, other than creating their own publicity? Chaiwala has no tea leaves, no sugar, not even hot water in his tea. And now he has become a chowkidar. Who wants a chowkidar like him? After the elections he’ll be reduced to a ‘dar’ – he’ll have to spend his time touring countries

He has created more trouble for the country through ‘notebandi’ and other damaging policies. He had promised employment; leave alone creating employment, his policies led to 2 crore people losing their jobs.

They can’t manage Delhi, and they want to take over Bangla. Do they know anything about Bangla to take care of it?

Today, someone or the other is benefitting from our schemes – bicycles under Sabooj Sathi, Swasthya Sathi and Kisan Credit Cards have been issued. Those who have not got these will get them after the elections. Everyone will benefit from our State Government schemes.

Farmers have also been assisted through various schemes. Kisan credit card, insurance, and incentives for cultivation. This has enabled them to more than double their incomes

In education too, there are so many opportunities now. Kanyashree, Vivekananda Swanirbhar Scholarships, etc., from the elementary level to higher education, we help them in every step.

We will win Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and other seats in North Bengal. Now it is the turn of Malda and Balurghat. With your support we will win here also.

Adivasi brothers and sisters, have you not benefited from govt schemes? What do you expect from the other parties?

We recognise and respect all religions, unlike the BJP who want to impose things on us.
We are tolerant and participate in all festivals, be it Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh or any other.

We have given official language status to Rajbongshi, Kamtapuri, Gurmukhi, among others

So please vote for the Trinamool and Jora Phool. Cast your votes early. Remember it is you who have to decide about the improvement of your future, so take the right decision.Let us pledge to usher in a new dawn, where there will be no BJP

They are saying that if they win, they will impose NRC. See what they have done in Assam – mother’s name is there, father’s name is not. There is total confusion. As many as 22 lakh legitimate names (of Hindu Bengalis) are not there on the list.

You must keep in mind the cause of your motherland. The BJP is conniving to oust people who belong to our motherland. We must fight against this.

So no more BJP, it is the TMC who will work with you not just for the state’s future but for the country’s as well. The new voters too must remember this.
