Empowering women to raise livestock

The State Government has decided to empower economically disadvantaged families by giving loans of Rs 18,000 to one female member of such families for raising poultry and livestock.
The loans would be given to 1 lakh women (hence helping 1 lakh families) for raising chickens, ducks and goats, especially in rural and semi-rural areas.
This project was announced at a recent seminar by the State Cooperation and Food & Supplies Ministers. They also said that earnings from raising chickens, ducks and goats can range from Rs 3,500 to 4,000 per month.
There are about 2.18 lakh self-help groups in Bangla, with more than 20 lakh women as members. These groups have been working tirelessly in empowering women.
