Bangla Govt announces book grant for Govt school libraries
Bangla Government has decided to allocate a total amount of Rs 40 crore for the libraries in all the State Government and State Government-aided schools in the State. Primary, Madhyamik and Higher Secondary levels schools will be included in the project. This is the first time that the government is giving such a grant.
This book grant would have to be used both to buy books and to set up libraries where none exist. The government has instructed the schools to buy the books from the books fairs it organises in the districts in August and September.
The amounts vary from Rs 3,000 to Rs 20,000.
Details of the amounts allocated on the basis of the type of schools:
- Having classes I to IV (primary): Rs 3,000 each
- Having classes I to VIII, classes V to VIII, and classes XI and XII: Rs 10,000 each
- Having classes I to X, classes V to X, and classes V to XII: Rs 15,000 each
- Having classes I to XII: Rs 20,000 each

- Paschim Medinipur (6,421 schools): Rs 2,99,26,000
- Jhargram (2,332 schools): Rs 1,07,67,000

- Bankura (4,932 schools): 2,34,16,000
- Birbhum (3,763 schools): Rs 1,82,61,000
- Dakshin Dinajpur (2,071 schools): Rs 94,87,000
- Darjeeling (1,072 schools): Rs 87,63,000
- Howrah (3,013 schools): Rs 1,59,72,000
- Hooghly (4,142 schools): Rs 2,10,79,000
- Jalpaiguri (2,190 schools): Rs 1,02,37,000
- Cooch Behar (3,166 schools): 151,40,000
- Kolkata (1,954 schools): Rs 1,25,48,000
