FULL TRANSCRIPT

Thank you Sir.

Cyclone bulbul has recently caused serious destruction in West Bengal. The cyclone has affected the lives of lots of people of East Medinipur, North and South 24 Parganas. Over 14 lakh hectares of agricultural lands have been destroyed, more than 5 lakh houses and 6,000 electrical poles have been damaged due to the cyclone. Many people have been injured and some have also lost their lives. The total loss incurred as of now is nearly Rs 24,000 crore, with losses expected to rise to nearly Rs 50,000 crore.

A detailed estimate was given to the central team, which visited the affected districts recently to assess the extent of the impact. However, no assistance has been given from the Centre yet, despite assurances by the Prime Minister. Funds of the State government are being used to provide relief and rehabilitation measures. State Government has taken measures to help the families in distress, with the help of civic volunteers and self-help groups.

We request the Centre to release the funds at the earliest to protect the lives and livelihoods of our people.

Thank you, Sir.
