WB CM sends out a message of unity at a function organised by the business community in Kolkata
West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee attended a post-Holi gathering organized by the Marwari community in Majerhat on March 18. “I don`t like wasting time”. I think we should utilise every minute. Because of the model code of conduct, I don`t have any work,” the Chief Minister told the guests at the get-together.
“You people are businessmen. You know that work has a continuous process”. You tell me how do you feel when time is wasted?” she added, striking a chord among an audience where time is counted as money.
She spent over an hour at the event, organised by the International Marwari Federation, an umbrella organisation of the entrepreneurial community that traces its roots to Rajasthan.
Dinesh Bajaj, the president of the federation declared: “Our community is with you, Didi” We want your success in Delhi.”
From prodding her cabinet colleagues – Madan Mitra, Firhad Hakim and Aroop Biswas – to don the traditional Rajasthani headgear (safa) to asking the speakers from the Marwari community to deliver their addresses in their mother tongue, the Chief Minister was feeling at home.
She also traced her fascination for the colour blue to a light-bulb moment in Rajasthan. “Jaipur is called Pink City and from there I got the idea of having a uniform colour for our Kolkata” I couldn`t choose red, nor could I opt for green. I chose blue and white,” said the Chief Minister.
Ms. Banerjee laid stress on time management not without reason. Investors have often complained of the absence of work culture in Bengal. The Chief Minister has already brought about changes by shunning bandhs and cracking down on strikes. “There are so many elections, Assembly, Panchayat, civic, then there are by-lections. So, you lose one or one-and-a-half years because of the elections in five years,” Ms. Banerjee said, before making a suggestion to hold all elections together.

অধুনা বঙ্গবাসী রাজস্থানের ব্যবসায়ীদের সঙ্গে জনসংযোগের কাজ সারলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।
দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনার পৈলানে দলের কর্মিসভা শেষ করে মঙ্গলবার সন্ধ্যায় মাঝেরহাটে বাংলার মারোয়াড়ি ব্যবসায়ী কূলের মুখোমুখি হয়েছিলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। সব সম্প্রদায়ের এক হয়ে বাংলার উন্নয়নে কাজ করার কথাই সেখানে বলেছেন মমতা। আড্ডার মেজাজে, মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর আন্তরিক কথাবার্তায় আপাত ভাবে হোলির রঙিন আবেশের ছোঁয়া ছিল এ দিনের অনুষ্ঠান ঘিরে।
পৈলানের কর্মিসভার অব্যবহিত পরেই মাঝেরহাটের অনুষ্ঠানে তিনি ছিলেন অন্য মেজাজে। সেখানে সরাসরি ভোটের কথা বলার কথাও ছিল না। তার মধ্যেই অবাঙালি ব্যবসায়ীদের সঙ্গে বন্ধন দৃঢ় করতে চেয়েছেন মমতা। রাজস্থানের গোলাপি শহর জয়পুরকে দেখেই কলকাতাকে আসমানি নীলে রাঙিয়ে দেওয়ার পরিকল্পনা তাঁর মাথায় আসে। অকপটে সে কথা জানিয়েছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। অনুষ্ঠানে হর্য নেওটিয়া, মহেন্দ্র জালান, সন্তোষ রুংতা–সহ উপস্থিত শ্রোতাদের সিংহ ভাগই ছিলেন ব্যবসায়ী। তাঁদের উদ্দেশে নির্বাচনী বিধি নিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর ঈষৎ তির্যক মন্তব্য, “আপনারা ব্যবসা থেকে ক্রমাগত ছুটি নিলে ব্যবসা চলবে? পাঁচ বছরের সরকারের মেয়াদে তো পঞ্চায়েত ভোট থেকে শুরু করে লোকসভা, পুরভোট, বিধানসভার ভোটের আচরণ–বিধিতেই দেড় বছর চলে যাচ্ছে! ফলে কাজটা হবে কী করে!”
অনুষ্ঠানের উদ্যোক্তা `আন্তর্জাতিক মারোয়াড়ি ফেডারেশনে`র সভাপতি দীনেশ বজাজ `দিল্লিতে দিদির সাফল্য` কামনা করেছেন। দীনেশের কথায়, “আমাদের অনুষ্ঠান করার কথা ছিল ২২ তারিখ। কিন্তু দিদি প্রচারে বেরোবেন বলে দু`দিনের নোটিশেই অনুষ্ঠান করে দিলাম। দিদিও উপভোগ করলেন। আমরাও!” আলাপচারিতার মধ্যেও মমতা রাজস্থান ও বাংলার মধ্যে ব্যবসায়িক সম্পর্ক গড়ে তোলার আবেদন জানাতে ভোলেননি। বলেছেন, “রাজস্থানের ভাল ভাল জিনিস এখানে নিয়ে আসুন। বাংলার ভাল ভাল কাজ রাজস্থানে নিয়ে যান। কারণ হম সব এক হ্যায়!”
