Statues of famous people to be installed at famous educational institutions
Statues of well-known people of Bangla would be installed at prominent educational institutions in Kolkata. This was announced by Education Minister Partha Chatterjee at a media briefing yesterday (May 28) evening.
Rabindranath Tagore’s statue would be put up at Presidency University, Ashutosh Mukherjee’s at the College Street campus of the University of Calcutta, and Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s and Kazi Nazrul Islam’s at College Square.
A museum dedicated to the famous social and educational reformer, Vidyasagar would be built at Vidyasagar College, also on College Street. Talks are also going on regarding the installing of him in front of Vidyasagar Statue (also called Second Hooghly Bridge).
Partha Chatterjee also announced to the media that the State Government has made elaborate plans for celebrating the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of Vidyasagar.
