Highlights of the Chief Minister’s speech:
Today is a historic day. This is glorious day in the history of Calcutta High Court.
Calcutta High Court is the oldest court of India. Several prominent figures have practiced law here.
The workload on Calcutta High Court is increasing. Number of cases, advocates is increasing. New infrastructure was thus required.
We will also upgrade the infrastructure at district courts, sub-divisional courts in phases.
Judges are also human. They need a good environment to work.
We have cleared the proposal of a new complex of High Court in 24 hours.
We gave the land for this complex at Re 1. This was our duty for the posterity.
From the Eco Park to the Wax Museum, from the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre to the Vivek Tirtha – we are creating a lot of new infrastructure in Newtown.
Demand for Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench is more than 40 years old. We have done our bit. It will come as a relief for the people of north Bengal.
It is our duty to ensure you do not face any problems in performing your duties.
We have set up 88 fast-track courts, 73 women’s police stations, 6 new police commissionerates, several new districts.
There are human rights courts in every district. We have also set up family courts and CBI courts.
