Aparupa Poddar speaks about elimination of manual scavenging

Thank you Speaker Sir for allowing me to speak under Rule 377 on an important issue.
Sir, in spite of the fact that it is illegal, government offices and private agencies are increasingly employing persons as manual scavengers on a daily basis, across the country. People die in sewer lines and septic tanks; they should be given modern equipment. The atrocious practice continues rampantly across the country causing loss of dignity and lives of Dalits.
Hence I urge the government to take immediate steps to eradicate manual scavenging and rehabilitate them. Thank you, Sir.
