Bengal Govt designates 100 stops for night bus service

The night bus service introduced recently by the State Transport Department along various routes in the city and its suburbs has become very popular. Twenty-five buses and two trams run as part of the service.
Now, the department has decided to designate 100 stoppages as ‘night stops’ for these services. A bus would wait at each stop for a minimum of 30 seconds. These stops would be introduced in July.
For the night bus service, safety has been of foremost concern Hence, certain special measures have been introduced. All buses are kept a watch on through mobile phones and in-bus CCTV cameras from the headquarters of the night bus service on Ganesh Chandra Avenue. Five departmental officials keep a constant watch on the buses through their mobiles, which are connected to the CCTV cameras in the buses.
As an additional precaution, to attend to any emergency quickly, the license numbers of all the buses on the roads on any particular day are communicated by the department to Kolkata Police, Barasat District Police, Bidhannagar and Barrackpore Police Commissionerates, Baruipur District Police and Golabari Police Station (in North 24 Parganas district).
