Saugata Roy asks a Question on the demand and supply of power

FULL TRANSCRIPT

Sir, I want a clarification on West Bengal. The questionnaire has included whether the state of West Bengal has a big demand-supply gap, which is more than the all India average, and the highest in the country after two to three small states?

In your reply you have said that the all India average is 0.6 per cent of  peak point power shortage; there is no peak shortage in West Bengal. Further, while there is a deficit of energy of 0.4 per cent at all India level, there is 0.3 per cent energy shortage in West Bengal. This means that West Bengal is better placed than most other states.

I don’t know whether the Question has some mischief about it. Would the Minister clarify what is the position? Whether West Bengal has surplus power? At least it is being able to export power to other states like Bihar and Odisha. Please clarify this.
