State Govt to help polytechnic students improve their spoken English skills
The State Technical Education Department will sign an MoU with the British Council for brushing up the English-speaking skills of the students studying in polytechnic colleges across the state.
The move is aimed at making the students job-ready as soon as they complete their courses. The move was decided upon after the department conducted an enquiry to assess the job-readiness of their students, following which it was found that communication in English was a major hurdle.
At present there are 148 polytechnic colleges across the state, which include government as well as the private ones. Of the around one lakh candidates who appear for the admission test, 40,000 are admitted.
It may be mentioned that vocational training as per the demands of the industry has been a focus area for the department in the last few years. The Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development (PBSSD), under the department, has created solutions for skill development as part of the overall policy of the government.
There were only 65 polytechnic colleges in the Bangla in 2011, which has now increased threefold under the Trinamool Congress Government.
