Significant reduction in the number of malnourished children in Bangla

The Trinamool Congress Government has been instrumental in bringing down the percentage of malnourished children in Bangla significantly in the last eight years, since it assumed power. The number, which stood at 47.52 per cent of the children before May 2011, is now down to 8.56 percent.
This data was provided by the Women and Child Development Minister on Monday, July 1 while answering a question in the State Assembly.
She further said that both normal and malnourished children are provided with breakfast and day meals in the State’s Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centres, to children between the age group of 6 months to 6 years and their mothers.
The food offered has proper protein and calorie content, as per the nutrition index formulated under the National Food Security Act. In May 2019, 77,37,658 children have been provided such food.
