Digitised ration cards in Bengal from Poila Boishakh

WB Government takes a new leap in e-governance as it is all set to introduce online application of Ration Cards. The new software is already in its place, and after necessary cabinet clearance and test runs it will be implemented from the first day of the Bengali New Year.

Once the application is done through prescribed online form, an inspector will visit for physical verification within 24 hours and within 3 days Aadhaar linked digital ration card will be issued.

WB Govt to provide free ‘stent’ for angioplasty to the poor

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee, who is also in-charge of the Health Department of the State, has decided the poor will be provided with free ‘stent’ for angioplasty.

This innovative step is being taken by the West Bengal Government after a detailed study by the specialised Committee formed by the CM. In the report submitted by the Committee, USA’s Bear Metal Platinum Chromium’s stent has been recommended. After negotiating with the company, the WB Govt drew up a model plan for free distribution of stent.

In the State Government’s Super Specialty hospital, SSKM, everyday nearly 200 cases of angioplasty takes place alone.

British House of Lords delegation meets WB CM

A delegation of British parliamentarians today called on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, besides having an interaction with Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee and members of the state Legislative Assembly to strengthen links between Indian and British legislators.

The 10-member British delegation, consisting of members from the House of Lords and the House of Commons and led by Baroness D’Souza, the Lord Speaker of the House of Lords, began its visit to the city with an interactive session with elected representatives from the Legislative Assembly.

The Chief Minister later said in a Facebook post that she received a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Delegation of eight UK MPs representing various political parties and officials led by Baroness D’Souza CMG, Lord Speaker, at the state secretariat Nabanna.

“We had a very useful discussion on a wide range of topics. They wanted to know about the priorities of the state government like empowerment of women, paid maternity leave for women employees, reservation of seats for women in local bodies and urban and rural development initiatives,” she said.

“The delegation expressed keen interest about our ‘Kanyashree’ scheme. I am so happy that the scheme for our girl child has generated so much interest all over the world,” the CM said, adding, “They also wanted to know about the constraints we face in carrying out development work.”

“I mentioned to them about the legacy of huge debt left over by the previous government and our repayment burden as the major hurdle to development work and how hard we are working to overcome this obstacle,” Ms Banerjee said.

Bengal PG course for making specialised doctors now a National Model

Once again Bengal shows the way! Another feather has been added on the State Government’s cap. WB Government’s effort to take up post graduation education in making specialised doctors from remote areas have been appreciated by the Central Government. Like the Kannyashree Prakolpo, the Union Government is now adopting this as a model for the country.

In its endeavour to make education available to all strata of the society, the West Bengal Government took the initiative to start DNB (Diploma of National Board) in six district Medical Colleges, which were approved by the Board after strict evaluation.  This step will also help the State to deal with shortage of specialist doctors.

In the first phase the DNB course is being offered at Purulia, Krishnanagar, Barasat, Chinsura, Howrah and Asansol. Four more district hospitals where the course will start in the near future are Tamluk, Suri, Jalpaiguri and Siliguri. At the moment courses where specialization offered are Gynaecology, Surgery, Medicine, Anaesthesia and Paediatrics.

The minimum qualification required to get admission in this course is MBBS. While studying, the doctors will be able to practice in the concerned hospital. This will also reduce the burden of city hospitals where people from the villages flock. Now, specialised treatment will be available at their doorstep.

In a recently held workshop in Kolkata for the teachers, the DNB official appreciated the State Government’s initiatives and also informed like the ‘fair price medical shops’ this model too will be taken up for countrywide implementation.

35.2% of Trinamool MPs are Women

Trinamool Congress is the only political party which has acted  for the empowerment of women in the country. The Women’s Reservation Bill, which is still pending in Parliament, proposes to amend the Constitution of India to reserve 33% of all seats in the Lower house of Parliament of India, the Lok Sabha, and in all state legislative assemblies for women.

12 out of the 34 newly-elected Trinamool MPs are women, which constitutes about 35.2% of TMC MPs.

Trinamool Congress has the highest percentage of women MPs in the house. The 16th Lok Sabha has only 65 women members which is around 11%.

While others only talk of women empowerment, Trinamool’s actions speak louder than words.
