WB CM to inaugurate the 3rd Uttarbanga Utsav
West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the third Uttarbanga Utsav, beginning on January 20, 2014 at Kanchenjunga stadium, Siliguri. The event will continue till January 26, 2014. The Chief Minister will also inaugurate the mini-secretariat at Kamrangaguri on 20 January, 2014.
The North Bengal Development minister Mr Gautam Deb informed reporters that North Dinajpur and Malda will be the theme districts of the festival this time. “This time, the event would cover 17 places. Like the previous years, 100 clubs based in North Bengal will be given a grant of Rs 50,000 each. This time, 100 meritorious students from the region will also be given scholarships worth Rs 10,000 each. The cultural activities, including musical programmes, plays and jatras, would be staged in course of the festival,“ Mr Deb said in Siliguri.
Chief Minister will also give away `Banga Samman` awards to noted artists from the region.
The Minister further said the information and cultural affairs department would organise programmes in the Darjeeling Hills. The Birsa Munda football tournament, volley ball competitions, T-20 cricket tournament, sit and draw competitions will also be organised as part of the festival, the Minister added.
