Replica of village coming up at Eco Park
In a bid to acquaint the visitors with the beauty and uniqueness of rural Bengal, a replica of a village is being set up at the Eco Park in New Town on the outskirts of Kolkata. It is likely to be opened in December.
The village will come up on three acres of land. There will be 40 huts, many of which have been constructed so far.
There will be 70 statues of village men along with a tulsi mandap, a rath and a palki, the traditional mode of transport in rural Bengal for centuries.
A replica of an actual paddy field will be built. Hand fans taller than man’s height will be put up at the front boundary wall. An eatery shaped like the musical instrument, dhamsa will be constructed keeping in mind the rural ambience.
It may be mentioned that since its inception in January 2012, the footfall at Eco Park has reached over 80 lakh, including both domestic and foreign visitors, with hundreds coming each year. The nature park was the brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who named it Prakriti Tirtha.

এক টুকরো গ্রাম বাংলা এবার ইকো পার্কে
রুপসী বাংলার রুপ ও বৈচিত্র মানুষের কাছে তুলে ধরতে এবার ইকো পার্কে তৈরী হচ্ছে গ্রাম বাংলার এক টুকরো রেপ্লিকা। জোরকদমে চলছে কাজ; ডিসেম্বর মাসের মধ্যেই জনগণের জন্য খোলা হবে ইকো পার্কের এই অংশটি।
গ্রাম বাংলার এই রেপ্লিকাতে থাকছে ৪০টি কুঁড়েঘর; আর থাকবে গ্রাম বাংলার মানুষের ৭০টি মূর্তি। থাকবে রথ ও পালকির প্রতিরুপ। থাকবে ধানক্ষেত, হাতে টানা পাখা। থাকবে তুলসীতলাও। ধামসার আদলে একটি খাবারের জায়গাও তৈরি হবে।
হিডকো কর্তৃপক্ষ জানিয়েছেন, দেশী ও আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যটকদের কাছে গ্রাম বাংলার রুপ তুলে ধরার জন্যই এই উদ্যোগ।
প্রসঙ্গত, ২০১২ সালে ইকো পার্ক তৈরী হওয়ার পর থেকে এখনও পর্যন্ত ৮০ লক্ষ মানুষ এখানে এসেছেন। এই পার্কের নাম মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় রেখেছেন ‘প্রকৃতি তীর্থ’।
