New pollution-free dumping ground in Joka
The State Government is preparing a new dumping ground in Rasapunja in Joka on the southern fringes of Kolkata to replace the one in Dhapa. This decision was taken as the one in Dhapa has reached full capacity after being used for the purpose for many decades.
The earmarked area is huge (about 100 acres). Another 20-acre area has also been marked for the same purpose in Rajarhat, on the northern fringes of the city.
The new dumping grounds will be different from the one in Dhapa. The waste would be deposited in dug-up ground and then covered up.
Plans are on to generate electricity from the garbage. The rest of the garbage would be processed in an environment-friendly manner.
দূষণমুক্ত নতুন ধাপা তৈরি হচ্ছে রসপুঞ্জে
শহর কলকাতার আয়তন বাড়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বাড়ছে তাঁর আবর্জনার পরিমাণও। বিকল্প ডাম্পিং গ্রাউন্ডের জন্য রাজারহাটে ২০ একর জমি পেয়ে গিয়েছিল পুরসভা। এবার সেই তালিকায় যুক্ত হল জোকার কাছে রসপুঞ্জের ১০০ একর জমি। এই নতুন প্রকল্পের জন্য এশিয়ান ডেভেলপমেন্ট ব্যাঙ্ক প্রয়োজনীয় ঋণের অনুমোদনও দিয়ে দিয়েছে।
কলকাতা শহরে এখন প্রতিদিন ৫৩৭২ টন আবর্জনা তৈরি হয়, যার মধ্যে ১৯০০ টন আবর্জনার পুনর্ব্যবহার করা সম্ভব। আবর্জনাকে পুনর্ব্যবহারযোগ্য করে তোলা হবে। এই জায়গাটি এমন ভাবে তৈরী করা হবে, যাতে বাইরে থেকে দেখে তা ময়লা ফেলার জায়গা বলে চেনা না যায়।
পাশাপাশি, রাজারহাটের মতো এখানেও জমা হওয়া জঞ্জাল থেকে বিদ্যুৎ ও সার তৈরি করা হবে।
