Demonetisation was a Black Decision worth every sort of condemnation: Mamata Banerjee
On the eve of the November 8 Black Day, Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee termed demonetisation as a big scam and demanded a thorough investigation of the process where black money was converted into white money for vested interests of the political party in power.
She took to social media to voice her protest and reiterated that November 8 this year will be observed as “Kaala Dibas” (Black Day) to protest against demonetisation and the unparalleled damage it caused to the country and its economy.
“Black money became ‘white fund’ for them and the country was plunged into darkness. No black money could yet be brought out from the foreign accounts. In all practical sense, it yielded big, big zero,” the CM wrote.
“Neither demonetisation could combat terrorism, nor black money nor aid to development of the country. By the devil act of demonetisation, the country has already lost its GDP worth nearly Rs.3 Lakh Crore. Crores of workers, particularly in the informal sector, lost their jobs. Farmers were left to starve. Over 100 people lost their lives,” she added.
Mamata Banerjee further wrote in her FB post: “People had no access to their own money in banks, even in emergency. The memories of untold sufferings and pain thrust upon the common people still haunt our minds. From Day 1, I had protested against this draconian decision of demonetisation by the central government and requested for its immediate withdrawal.”
She also shared statistics of how the Indian economy has been ruined. “The GDP fell to 6.1% growth in between January and March, 2017 compared to 9.1% in the previous year. It further plummeted to 5.7% between April and June, 2017, compared to 7.9% in the previous year,” she said.
“More than 75,000 industrialists were compelled to leave India and settle abroad and become NRI because of harassment in the prevailing situation. Business potential worth lakhs and lakhs of crore in India was thus lost,” the Chief Minister added.
Mamata Banerjee reiterated, “We are for all the people who suffered and still continue to suffer. Their fight is our fight and we are committed to stand by them.”

৮ নভেম্বর ‘কালা দিবসের’ প্রাক্কালে তৃণমূলনেত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় নোটবাতিল আবারও তোপ দাগলেন। নোটবাতিলকে বিরাট বড় দুর্নীতি বলে ফেসবুকে একটি পোস্ট লিখেছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। তিনি বলেন নোটবাতিলের মাধ্যমে কেন্দ্রে ক্ষমতাসীন একটি রাজনৈতিক দল কালো টাকা কে সাদা টাকায় রূপান্তরিত করেছে। তিনি এর তদন্তের দাবিও জানান।
মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেন নোটবাতিলের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ হিসেবে এবছর ৮ই নভেম্বর “কালা দিবস” হিসেবে পালন করা হবে। এই সিদ্ধান্তের ফলে অপরিসীম ক্ষতি হয়েছে দেশের অর্থনীতির, দাবি তার। “দেশের ভবিষ্যৎ অন্ধকারে চলে গেছে। এখনও পর্যন্ত বিদেশ থেকে কোনও কালো টাকা ফেরত আসে নি। এর ফল শূন্য, একটা বড় গোল্লা,” তিনি বলেন।
“নোটবাতিল সন্ত্রাসবাদ দমন করতে পারে নি, কালো টাকা বাজেয়াপ্ত করতে পারে নি, দেশের উন্নয়নও ব্যাহত। এই ভয়ঙ্কর সিদ্ধান্তে দেশের ৩ লক্ষ কোটি টাকার জিডিপি ক্ষতি হয়েছে। কোটি কোটি শ্রমিক, বিশেষ করে অসংগঠিত ক্ষেত্রে, কাজ হারিয়েছেন। ১০০ জনের বেশি মানুষ প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন; কৃষকরা অনাহারে মারা যাচ্ছেন,” বলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।
মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় তাঁর ফেসবুক পোস্টে আরও বলেন, “ব্যাঙ্কে রাখা নিজের টাকার ওপর মানুষের কোনও অধিকার নেই; পরিস্থিতি এমারজেন্সির মতো। মানুষের অপরিসীম দুঃখ, যন্ত্রণার স্মৃতি আমরা আজও ভুলতে পারি না। প্রথম দিন থেকে আমি কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের নোটবাতিলের কঠিন সিদ্ধান্তের প্রতিবাদ করেছি ও অনুরোধ করেছি এই সিদ্ধান্ত তুলে নিতে।”
তিনি তথ্য দিয়ে বলেন কিভাবে দেশের অর্থনীতি বিধ্বস্ত হয়েছে। “গত বছর জানুয়ারি থেকে মার্চের মধ্যে দেশের জিডিপি গ্রোথ ছিল ৯.১%, ২০১৭ সালের জানুয়ারি থেকে মার্চে তা কমে দাঁড়িয়েছে ৬.১%। গত বছর এপ্রিল থেকে জুনের মধ্যে দেশের জিডিপি গ্রোথ ছিল ৭.৯%, ২০১৭ সালের এপ্রিল থেকে জুনে তা কমে দাঁড়িয়েছে ৫.৭%। ৭৫,০০০ এর বেশি শিল্পপতিরা দেশ ছেড়ে চলে যেতে বাধ্য হয়েছেন। দেশ জুড়ে লক্ষ লক্ষ কোটি টাকার লগ্নির সুযোগ নষ্ট হয়।”
মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় আবারও বলেন, “যেসকল মানুষ কষ্ট পেয়েছেন বা এখনও পাচ্ছেন, তাঁদের সকলের পক্ষে আমরা আছি। তাঁদের লড়াই আমাদের লড়াই, এবং আমরা তাঁদের পাশে দাঁড়াতে প্রতিজ্ঞাবদ্ধ।”
