WB Govt to provide free ‘stent’ for angioplasty to the poor

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee, who is also in-charge of the Health Department of the State, has decided the poor will be provided with free ‘stent’ for angioplasty.

This innovative step is being taken by the West Bengal Government after a detailed study by the specialised Committee formed by the CM. In the report submitted by the Committee, USA’s Bear Metal Platinum Chromium’s stent has been recommended. After negotiating with the company, the WB Govt drew up a model plan for free distribution of stent.

In the State Government’s Super Specialty hospital, SSKM, everyday nearly 200 cases of angioplasty takes place alone.

To apply for the stent, the concerned patient has to apply to the State Government through the hospital Super with a copy of his/her income certificate. After scrutiny, the same will be granted.  The stent also can be procured from the ‘Fair Price Medical Shop’, in that case it will be reimbursed by the ‘State Illness Assistant Fund’, later.

TMC RS MPs to meet Vice President on Feb 6

A delegation of Trinamool Congress will meet Vice-president and Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari to take up the issue of MPs being “targetted” by the CBI in the Saradha scam.

“It was decided at the TMC core committee meeting, which was held a few days ago and presided over by party supremoMamata Banerjee that an eight-member delegation of our Rajya Sabha members would meet Hamid Ansari who has given a date on February 6 to meet him,” TMC national spokesman and RS MP Derek O’Brien told PTI here today.

“We want to share with the Vice-president, who is Chairman of Rajya Sabha our concern that TMC RS members were being targeted politically by using CBI as the BJP is in minority there (RS) and TMC has taken the lead role in the opposition there,” O’Brien said.

TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee had alleged after the party’s core committee meeting on Saturday that BJP, which does not have majority in Rajya Sabha, was arresting TMC MPs on various pretexts and a delegation of the party would meet Ansari.

Smear campaign cannot stop good work: WB CM

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today expressed displeasure over a section of the media “conspiring not to project the good work” done by her government and “spreading only negativity”, but said it cannot stop the good work.

“A section of the media can’t see the good work that is being done. They are only highlighting the negative things. I want to say that conspiracy can’t stop the good work done by the KMC and our government. People will give a befitting reply to the canards,” the Chief Minister said.

She asked people to believe in the development that one can see through one’s eyes and not through the news circulated by those “who have opened shops for selling news”.

“The good work done by the KMC is not done on the basis of lectures. It is done on the basis of hard work that we do on the field on a regular basis,” she asserted.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the inauguration of the 15-million gallon water purification and booster pumping station at Chetla in Kolkata.

Ms Banerjee lauded the TMC-led Kolkata Municipal Corporation for the good work that it had done to provide much better services to the citizens of Kolkata.

Land Ordinance

Trinamool protests against Land Ordinance

Continuing its protests against the ordinance to amend the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, the Trinamool Congress on Wednesday burnt symbolic copies of the ordinance in Kolkata.

The protests comes a day after Chief Minister and party chairperson Mamata Banerjee described the ordinance as a ‘black law’ and said that she will not implement the law in West Bengal.

The protests, which were held in the Esplanade area of the city, was led by senior Trinamool leader and chief whip in the West Bengal Assembly Sovandeb Chattopadhyay.

Stating that the ordinance was against the interests of farmers, Mr Chattopadhyay dubbed the ordinance as “draconian and undemocratic.”

He said that by resorting to an ordinance, the Centre not only “bypassed Parliament, but also did not hold any discussions with Chief Ministers.”

“Our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a 26-day long fast against forcible land acquisition at Singur in Hooghly district,” Mr. Chattopadhyay said, adding that no one can forcibly occupy the land of farmers from the State.

“Mamata Banerjee cannot disassociate herself from her sentiments regarding the issue (of forcible land acquisition) and hence she declared that she would not allow the Centre to implement the ordinance in West Bengal,” he told media persons.
