The third edition of Bengal Global Business Summit is being held at Milan Mela Grounds with participation from business delegates from around the world.

In the last five years, Bengal has witnessed unprecedented growth under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee. Power cuts are a thing of the past; the State has formulated new policies for industry, MSME, land use, textile, maritime, tourism.

The two-day long Bengal Global Business Summit 2017 will bring together policy makers, corporate leaders from around the globe, delegations, academia, opinion makers to explore business opportunities, forge partnerships and collaborations.

Country’s first financial and legal hub coming up in Newtown

The country’s first ever financial and legal services hub will soon come up on 100 acre of land in the Commercial Business District Zone of Newtown.

Twenty two financial institutions have bought plots in the hub, namely State Bank of India, Bank of India, Allahabad Bank, Bank of Baroda, Corporation Bank, Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank, Syndicate Bank, Karnataka Bank, Union Bank of India, Indian Bank, Andhra Bank, Vijaya Bank, United Bank of India, Shriram Credit, Bandhan Bank, UCO Bank, National Insurance, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, West Bengal Industrial Development Finance Corporation, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and West Bengal Financial Corporation.

Participation has also been invited for strategic investors in an ‘iconic tower’ at the financial and legal services hub by means of reverse e-auctioning. A cluster of financial institutions will be involved in the project. Additional plots are also available.

In addition to the legal hub, a commercial court is also planned to come up at the location. A Bench of the National Green tribunal is already functioning and a business and arbitration centre is in operation for promoting ease of doing business.

দেশের প্রথম ‘অর্থনৈতিক ও আইনি পরিষেবার হাব‘ তৈরী হচ্ছে নিউটাউনে

কলকাতার নিউ টাউনে তৈরি হচ্ছে দেশের প্রথম ‘অর্থনৈতিক ও আইনি পরিষেবার হাব’। ১০০ একর জমির অপ্র তৈরি হবে এই হাবটি।

অর্থনৈতিক প্রতিষ্ঠানের একটি ক্লাস্টারও এই প্রজেক্টের অন্তর্ভুক্ত। এছাড়া  অনেক অতিরিক্ত জমিও রয়েছে।

আইন পরিষেবার হাব ছাড়াও কমার্শিয়াল কোর্ট তৈরির পরিকল্পনা চলছে। ন্যাশনাল গ্রিন ট্রাইব্যুনালের একটি বেঞ্চ ইতিমধ্যেই কাজ শুরু করে দিয়েছে।

This year, the third edition of Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) will be organised at Milan Mela, and will be the biggest summit so far. The  venue will have top-class facilities and security arrangements for delegates.

The state government laid no stone unturned to strongly promote the event. The city was decked up with hoardings and billboards displaying the objectives of BGBS and the tag line ‘Come to Bengal, Ride the growth’. The hoardings were seen on most of the busiest road crossings and intersections.

Port, mining and MSME will be the main areas of focus at the 2017 edition of the summit. The state government recently framed a Maritime Policy, with the help of global analytical company CRISIL. With that, the government has also opened the ways to widen ‘port-based industrialisation’ to give an edge to Bengal’s trade scenario.

Promoting the state as the possessor of the third largest ‘mineral resource’ across India, the Bengal government will look to get investment in mining sector as well. The Commerce and Industry department will promote sectors like textile, gems and jewellery, leather, jute, forging, casting, apparel and handicraft under MSMEs.

Startups are also in focus at the Summit this year. On 20 January, 2017, there will be a ‘Plenary Session on Start Ups & Entrepreneurship’ and on the second day, a special session on startups is scheduled.

আগামীকাল থেকে শুরু হচ্ছে তৃতীয় বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন। দুদিনের এই সম্মেলন হবে মিলনমেলায়। চলবে শনিবার পর্যন্ত।

এই উপলক্ষে হোর্ডিং ও ব্যানারে সেজে উঠেছে গোটা কলকাতা। শহরের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে ব্যস্ততম ক্রসিংগুলোতে লাগানো হয়েছে এইসব হোর্ডিং। যার ট্যাগ লাইন হল ‘Come to Bengal, Ride the growth’. চলছে শেষ মুহূর্তের প্রস্তুতি।

২০১৭–‌র বিশ্ববঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনের প্রধান আকর্ষণ দুটো— এক, চীন। আর দুই, উদ্ভাবনী নতুন ব্যবসা, শিল্প জগতে এখন ‘স্টার্ট আপ’ নামে যার পরিচয়। বন্দর, খনিজ শক্তি, ক্ষুদ্র ও মাঝারি শিল্প এই সম্মেলনে বিশেষ গুরুত্ব পাবে। এছাড়াও যে বিষয়গুলিতে নজর দেওয়া হচ্ছে সেগুলি হল – জলপথ পরিবহন, অসামরিক বিমান পরিষেবা, গাড়ি, ক্রীড়া ও পরিকাঠামো বিষয়ক শিল্প, খাদ্য প্রক্রিয়াকরণ, স্বাস্থ্য, শিক্ষা, কর্মদক্ষতা, তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি, নগরোন্নয়ন, অরথ-আইন বিষয়ক ক্ষেত্র, পর্যটন ও বিনোদন ইত্যাদি।

সম্মেলনে উপস্থিত থাকবেন বিভিন্ন শিল্পক্ষেত্রের ২৫টি সংস্থার প্রতিনিধিরা। উদ্ভাবনী নতুন ব্যবসা স্থাপনের অনুকূল পরিবেশ তৈরি করার জন্যই বিশ্ব বঙ্গ সম্মেলনে স্টার্ট আপ–‌কে গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হচ্ছে। ইন্ডিয়ান ইনস্টিটিউট অফ ম্যানেজমেন্ট, কলকাতার ইনোভেশন পার্ক চিহ্নিত করে দিয়েছে স্থানীয় বেশ কিছু সম্ভাবনাময় স্টার্ট আপ। কনফেডারেশন অফ ইন্ডিয়ান ইন্ডাস্ট্রিজের পক্ষ থেকে বিশেষ উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে যাতে স্টার্ট আপ কর্ণধাররা অন্যান্য শিল্প প্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রতিনিধিদের সঙ্গে সরাসরি আলোচনায় বসতে পারেন।

আগামী ২০ জানুয়ারি ‘Plenary Session on Start Ups & Entrepreneurship’ এর একটি সেশন হবে এবং সম্মেলনের দ্বিতীয় দিনে স্টার্টআপের ওপর একটি বিশেষ সেশন হবে।

Bengal government will lay special emphasis on progress and welfare of girl students and those coming from economically weaker sections of the society, state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said.

“We will give special focus on girl students and those coming from the economically weaker sections (EWS). The government will also look into excellence in education as well as employability of the passing out students,” he said at the 10th convocation of St Xavier’s College.

He added, “I will also request all the universities to undertake a review of their curricula and to take steps to meet today’s requirements and also to interact with industrial houses.”

 

অর্থনৈতিকভাবে পিছিয়ে পরা ছাত্রছাত্রীদের ওপর বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেবে রাজ্য সরকারঃ পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায়

অর্থনৈতিকভাবে দুর্বল ছাত্রছাত্রীদের জন্য শিক্ষার অগ্রগতি ও কল্যানের জন্য তাদের ওপর বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হবে বলে জানান শিক্ষা মন্ত্রী পার্থ চট্টোপাধ্যায়।

সেন্ট জেভিয়ার্স কলজের সমাবর্তন অনুষ্ঠানে এসে শিক্ষামন্ত্রী বলেন, যেসকল ছাত্রীরা অর্থনৈতিক দিক থেকে পিছিয়ে (EWS) তাদের ওপর বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হবে। শিক্ষার পাশাপাশি ছাত্রছাত্রীদের কর্মসংস্থানের দিকেও নজর দেবে শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলি।

তিনি আরও বলেন আমি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়গুলোকে অনুরোধ করব তাদের পাঠক্রম নিয়ে পর্যালোচনা করার এবং বর্তমান প্রয়োজনীয়তা সম্পর্কে পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করার জন্য এবং শিল্প সংস্থাগুলোর সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ রাখার জন্য।

In a bid to help all workers from both the organised and unorganised sectors derive the benefits given by the state government, the state Labour department has taken a unique initiative of making people aware of the benefits by organising state-wide Shramik Mela.

Besides providing different benefits to workers of organised sectors, the state Labour department is targeting to provide Samajik Mukti Card to all the 1.5 crore workers in the unorganised sector. After the change of the guard in the state, the state Labour department has given Samajik Mukti Card to around 90 lakh workers. While from 2000 to 2011, the erstwhile Left Front government had brought only 23 lakh workers from unorganised sector under the scheme to provide them different benefits.

The Shramik Mela will get organised at 36 different places including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Raiganj, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Malda, Berhampore, Kalyani, Bolpur, Burdwan, Katwa, Asansol, Purulia, Bankura, Khatra, Tamluk, Haldia, Baruipur, Barrackpore, Diamond Harbour, Chinsurah, Arambagh and Kolkata. In each of the places, the mela will continue for two days in January.

In Kolkata, the Shramik Mela will be organised on January 27 and 28 at Jatin Das Park. There will be discussions on different issues related to labour laws and other aspects of the lives of workers. There will be stalls in the Shramik Mela from where visitors will get aware of the labour laws.

There will also be awareness camp on minimum wages of labourers. At the same time, they could also learn what their family members should do in case they face any accident while working in their respective places of work. There will also be programmes like financial assistance distribution among workers from 61 different unorganised sectors. There will also be awareness camp in the Shramik Mela about the employment bank.

 

রাজ্যের ৩৬টি স্থানে অনুষ্ঠিত হবে শ্রমিক মেলা

সংগঠিত ও অসংগঠিত ক্ষেত্রের শ্রমিকরা যাতে রাজ্য সরকারের তরফ থেকে প্রদান করা সকল সুযোগ সুবিধার ব্যাপারে অবগত হতে পারেন, তাই রাজ্যের ৩৬টি জায়গায় শ্রমিক মেলা অনুষ্ঠিত করার উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে রাজ্য শ্রমিক দপ্তর।

শ্রমিক মেলা অনুষ্ঠিত হবে দার্জিলিং, কালিম্পং, রায়গঞ্জ, আলিপুরদুয়ার, কোচবিহার, মালদা, বহরমপুর, কল্যাণী, বোলপুর, বর্ধমান, কাটোয়া, আসানসোল, পুরুলিয়া, বাঁকুড়া, খাটরা, তমলুক, হলদিয়া, বারুইপুর, বারাকপুর, ডায়মন্ড হারবার, চুঁচুড়া, আরামবাগ ও কলকাতা সহ রাজ্যের ৩৬টি জায়গায়। প্রতিটি স্থানে ২দিন করে মেলা অনুষ্ঠিত হবে।

কলকাতায় শ্রমিক মেলা অনুষ্ঠিত হবে ২৭ ও ২৮শে জানুয়ারি যতীন দাস পার্কে।

এই মেলার বিভিন্ন স্টল থেকে শ্রমিক আইন সম্বন্ধে বিস্তারিত জানতে পারা যাবে। ন্যুনতম মজুরির ব্যাপারেও সচেতনতা বাড়ানো হবে। শ্রমিক পরিবারের লোকেরাও জানতে পারবেন কর্মস্থলে দুর্ঘটনা ঘটলে তাঁদের কি করনীয়। এমপ্লয়মেন্ট ব্যাঙ্কের ব্যাপারেও সচেতনতা ক্যাম্প থাকবে শ্রমিক মেলায়।

উল্লেখ্য, সংগঠিত ক্ষেত্রের শ্রমিকদের নানারকম সুবিধা প্রদানের পাশাপাশি, রাজ্য শ্রমিক দপ্তর অসংগঠিত ক্ষেত্রে দেড় কোটি শ্রমিককে ‘সামাজিক মুক্তি কার্ড’ প্রদান করার লক্ষ রেখেছে। সরকার বদলের পর রাজ্য শ্রমিক দপ্তর ৯০ লক্ষ সামাজিক মুক্তি কার্ড ইতিমধ্যেই প্রদান করেছে। ২০০০ থেকে ২০১১ সাল পর্যন্ত তৎকালীন বাম সরকার মাত্র ২৩ লক্ষ সামাজিক মুক্তি কার্ড প্রদান করেছিল।

Startups will be the toast of Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2017 with some of the biggest entrepreneurs in recent times, from a taxi aggregation that has revolutionised urban transport in India to an online grocery that has transformed the lives of working couples, and a fast food chain that started its journey from Kolkata and has branches in 10 cities now, participating in the two-day event beginning Friday.

The startup event is being organised in association with the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. CEO of Innovation Park in IIM-C feels the programme will be a big help in building a startup ecosystem in the east. With startups constituting a major part of the Indian economy in terms of market capitalization, attracting investments and generating jobs, the participation of big names in the sector augers well for Bengal.

There is a session on venture capital and private equity funds on Saturday that will see the participation of Sequoia Capital and Calcutta Angels, among others.

বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন ২০১৭য় স্টার্ট-আপ হতে চলেছে ‘মধ্যমণি’। সাম্প্রতিককালের কিছু নামকরা স্টার্ট-আপের প্রতিনিধিরা থাকবেন এই সম্মেলন। থাকবে একটি ভারতীয় অনলাইন ট্যাক্সি পরিষেবা প্রদানকারী সংস্থা থেকে শুরু করে অনলাইনে নিত্যপ্রয়োজনীয় জিনিসপত্র কেনার স্টার্ট-আপ ও। অংশগ্রহণ করবে কলকাতায় যাত্রা শুরু করা ফাস্ট ফুড চেন যা ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে দেশের আরও ১০টি শহরে।

স্টার্ট-আপ নিয়ে ‘সেশন’টি অনুষ্ঠিত হবে ইন্ডিয়ান ইন্সটিটিউট অফ ম্যানেজমেন্ট (আইআইএম), কলকাতার সহযোগিতায়। আইআইএম কলকাতা’র ইনোভেশান পার্কের সিইও মনে করেন পূর্ব ভারতে স্টার্ট-আপ ইকোসিস্টেম তৈরী করতে সাহায্য করবে এই সম্মেলন।

ভারতীয় অর্থনীতিতে এখন স্টার্ট-আপ গুলির অবদান অপরিসীম। স্বাভাবিকভাবেই বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনে স্টার্ট-আপের ওপর জোর দেওয়াতে বাংলার ভাবমূর্তি আরও উজ্জ্বল হবে।

 

 

Tourism circuit to connect Belur Math, Dakshineswar, Kuthighat & Kashipur Garden House

A waterway tourism circuit is being conceived covering the religious destinations of Belur Math, Dakshineswar, Kuthighat and Kashipur Garden House.

The jetty ghats in the four places would be the connecting points for the waterway circuit. For this reason, the ghats are being renovated, and the work is almost at the last phase. Ferry services would start soon.

Not just these above-mentioned places, but many other places along the Hooghly would soon be connected to Belur via water crafts.

The State Transport Department is well on its way to implementing the project, and it is hoped that this would be another feather in the cap of Bengal’s tourism infrastructure.

বেলুড় মঠ, দক্ষিণেশ্বরকে জুড়বে সার্কিট-জলপথ

‘বেলুড় মঠ, দক্ষিণেশ্বর, কুঠিঘাট ও কাশীপুর উদ্যানবাটি ঘিরে ‘সার্কিট-জলপথ’ গড়ে তোলা হচ্ছে। জলপথে সংশ্লিষ্ট ঘাটগুলিকে যুক্ত করা হবে। সেই কারণেই ওই জেটিঘাটগুলিকে সংস্কারের কাজ চলছে। শীঘ্রই এই ঘাটগুলির মধ্যে ফেরি-সার্ভিস চালু করা হবে।’ গত বৃহস্পতিবার স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের ১৫৫তম জন্মদিবস উপলক্ষে বেলুড় মঠে জাতীয় যুবদিবস উদযাপন অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দিতে এসে একথা বলেন পরিবহণমন্ত্রী শুভেন্দু অধিকারী।

এদিন তিনি বলেন, বেলুড় মঠ থেকেই কামারপুকুর-জয়রামবাটি, গড়িয়া-সহ বিভিন্ন জায়গায় বাস-সার্ভিস চালু হয়েছে। এবার জলপথেও বেলুড় মঠের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ ব্যাবস্থা আরও উন্নত করা হচ্ছে। সেই লক্ষ্যেই বেলুড় মঠ, দক্ষিণেশ্বর, কুঠিঘাট ও কাশীপুর উদ্যানবাটি ঘিরে সার্কিট জলপথ গড়ে তোলা হচ্ছে, যার কাজ প্রায় শেষ পর্যায়ে, শীঘ্রই তা চালু হয়ে যাবে। এই জেটিঘাটগুলিরও সংস্কার করা হচ্ছে, আধুনিক মানের ঝাঁ-চকচকে করে গড়ে তুলে সৌন্দর্যায়ন ঘটানো হচ্ছে।

অনুষ্ঠানে কলকাতার মেয়র তথা দমকলমন্ত্রী শোভন চ্যাটার্জিও উপস্থিত ছিলেন। বৃহস্পতিবার সকাল থেকে বেলুড় মঠে স্বামীজির জন্মদিন উপলক্ষে যুবদিবস পালিত হয়। বিভিন্ন স্কুলের ছাত্রছাত্রীদের নিয়ে প্রভাতফেরি হয়। বিশেষ পুজোপাঠেরও আয়োজন করা হয়। এদিন বেলুড় মঠে ভক্তদের উপচেপড়া ভিড় হয়েছিল। দেশ-বিদেশের অগণিত ভক্ত এদিন বেলুড় মঠে এসেছিলেন।

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday dubbed as an “eyewash announcement” the hike in daily ATM withdrawal limits announced by the RBI and demanded all restrictions be lifted.

She maintained money is not available in banks.

“Government eye wash announcement. Money not available in banks. All restrictions should be withdrawn immediately,” tweeted Mamata Banerjee.

The RBI hiked the daily ATM withdrawal limit from Rs 4,500 to Rs 10,000 and doubled the weekly Current Account withdrawal limit to Rs 1 lakh.

বাংলার মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় সোমবার রিজার্ভ বাঙ্কের ঘোষিত এটিএম থেকে টাকা তোলার ঊর্ধ্বসীমা বৃদ্ধিকে একটি “লোকদেখানো ঘোষণা” বলেন। তিনি দাবি জানান অবিলম্বে টাকা তোলার ওপর সমস্ত বিধিনিষেধ প্রত্যাহার প্রত্যাহার করতে হবে।

তিনি ট্যুইট করে বলেন, “এটা সরকারের লোক দেখানো ঘোষণা, ব্যাঙ্কে টাকা নেই। এখনই সমস্ত বিধিনিষেধ প্রত্যাহার করা উচিত”

Sitalpati from Cooch Behar district of Bengal has been recognised as an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’ by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s untiring effort towards reviving the cultural heritage of the State and bringing it to the notice of the world has played a major role behind this recognition.

Weaving sitalpati mats (‘sitalpati’ translates to ‘cool mat’, from the fact that it helps to keep cool, be it as a mat for sitting on or to hang on doors or windows during summer) is an age-old cultural tradition of Cooch Behar region. It consists of weaving together the green cane slips of the murta plants, indigenous to the region. The gradual decline of sitalpati weaving was arrested by the proactive efforts of the Chief Minister to gain for it global recognition and thus, funds for its revival.

As a result, sitalpati has found a place in the UNESCO-sponsored Rural Craft Hub project, under which, at 10 locations in nine districts of the State, training and marketing centres and museums have been set up to help promote and market crafts indigenous to those regions, to national and international tourists.

Now, the traditional sitalpati-weaving families have earned respect and renown. Through 50 self-help groups (SHGs), promoted by the Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) of the State Government, the weavers have access to loans on easy terms.

They are given training to improve on the technical and marketing aspects. A museum showcasing the various types of sitalpati has been set up in Ghughumari, a well-known centre for the craft in Cooch Behar district. Importantly, the State Government is also promoting tourism centred on sitalpati.

Through these measures, the State Government is acting as a facilitator between the artistes and their crafts, and helping in bringing long-term stability to the craft and the craftspeople.

ইউনেস্কোর প্রশংসা পেল রাজ্যের মাদুর

ঐতিহ্যের পুনরুজ্জীবন করেছে রাজ্য। আর সেই উদ্যোগকে স্বীকৃতি দিল আন্তর্জাতিক সংস্থা ইউনেস্কো।

বর্তমানে ক্ষুদ্র, মাঝারি ও কুটির শিল্প দফতরের উদ্যোগে। এক বছর ধরে এই শিল্পের সঙ্গে জড়িত অন্তত ছয় হাজার কারিগর ঋণ পাচ্ছেন ব্যাঙ্ক থেকে। সরাসরি যাতে বিক্রি করা যায়, সেই ব্যাবস্থাও হয়েছে। আর এমন ঘটনাকেই দরাজ স্বীকৃতি দিয়েছে আন্তর্জাতিক সংস্থা ইউনেস্কো।

‘ঐতিহ্যশালী কুটিরশিল্প’ হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দিয়ে দফতরকে জানিয়েছে। বাংলার শীতলপাটি এখন বিদেশে পাড়ি দিচ্ছে। কারিগররা শীতলপাটি, মাদুর বিক্রি করে আর্থিকভাবে লাভবান। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের উদ্যোগেই এই জোয়ার এসেছে। শীতলপাটি, মাদুর বা শালপাতার থালা, প্লেট এখন লাভজনক ব্যাবসা। এই শিল্পকে স্বীকৃতি জানিয়ে বার্তা পাঠিয়েছে ইউনেস্কো। বস্তুত, বিদেশের বাজারে এই শিল্পকে তুলে ধরতে ব্যাপক সাহায্য করছে ইউনেস্কো।”

কোচবিহারের বিভিন্ন অংশে পাটি চাষ হয়। মাদুর কাঠির চাষ হয় পূর্ব ও পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুরে। কিন্তু ঘটনা হল, চাষের শুরুতেই একশ্রেণির মহাজন আগাম অর্থ দিয়ে কিনে নিত। মাদুর কাঠি বা শীতল পাটি শুকিয়ে গেলে সেই মহাজনরা কিনে নেন। একরকম বাধ্য হয়েই কম দামে পাটি, মাদুর বিক্রি করতে বাধ্য হতেন কারিগররা। কিন্তু সরকারি সাহায্য মেলায় সেই সমস্যা মিটেছে।

অন্তত ৫০টি স্বনির্ভর গোষ্ঠী তৈরি করে তাঁদের সহজে ব্যাঙ্ক ঋণ পাওয়ারও ব্যাবস্থা করে দেওয়া হয়েছে। প্রশিক্ষণ ও যন্ত্রসামগ্রীও দেওয়া হয়েছে। আবার সহজে বিক্রির জন্যও সরকারি সংস্থা এগিয়ে এসেছে।

কোচবিহারে শীতলপাটির সংগ্রহশালা তৈরি হয়েছে সরকারি উদ্যোগে। সংগ্রহশালাতে তুলে ধরা হয়েছে বিভিন্ন ধরনের শীতলপাটি। এই শীতলপাটিকে কেন্দ্র করে পর্যটকদের আনাগোনাও বাড়ছে।
