India’s youth are being pushed into a cycle of anxiety, uncertainty and betrayal: Abhishek Banerjee on NEET-UG paper leak

The students and youth of the country are being taken for a ride by the Modi government at the Centre. The futures of crores of people across the country are in jeopardy because of the massive mismanagement.
First came the cancellation of the NEET-UG examination because of the leaking of questions to a select group of students. Then, the CBSE class 12 marks of many students were found to be incorrect because of errors in the AI-based software used for correction.
The latest fiasco to hog the limelight was the forced cancellation of the SSC GD Constable examination at a centre in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh because the number of candidates allocated was more than double the seating capacity.
The All India Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and Leader of the Party in Lok Sabha Abhishek Banerjee has come out strongly against this state of affairs of the education system.
In a post of X, he wrote how the “NEET paper leaks”, “CBSE exam irregularities” and “SSC GD recruitment controversy” have pushed India’s youth “into a cycle of anxiety, uncertainty and BETRAYAL”.
He remarked that “[c]rores of students spend years preparing, sacrificing sleep, resources, mental peace and family expectations with the hope that hard work will secure their future”, but now they are being rewarded with paper leaks, technical glitches, mismanagement, overcrowded centres and broken systems.
He held out the example of the cancellation of the SSC GD Constable examination in Uttar Pradesh: “Nearly 46 lakh candidates appearing for SSC GD – many travelling hundreds of kilometres with borrowed money and dreams in their eyes – deserved fairness and dignity. Instead, reports of server failures, chaos at centres and serious security concerns have once again shaken public trust in the examination system.”
“This is not mere ‘mismanagement’ ”, he goes on to say, but “the SYSTEMATIC DESTRUCTION OF MERIT”, as “[a]n entire generation is growing up believing that no matter how hard they work, the system can still fail them overnight”.
He hit out at BJP’s rule, during which “examinations are making headlines for scams and irregularities instead of creating opportunities for nation-building”. He said that students are “no longer asking for privilege” but “are simply demanding a fair chance”.
The national general secretary pointed out that “[a] government that cannot protect the integrity of examinations cannot claim to protect the future of the nation” and warned the BJP to stop “playing with the future of students”, “normalising institutional failure” and “destroying trust in public institutions”.
Abhishek Banerjee ended his post by warning the BJP that “[t]he youth of this country are watching. And they will remember”.
