A day before the 50-day deadline for depositing demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes is due, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hit out strongly at this anti-poor policy of the Prime Minister.
She said that the “country went through a tumultuous situation” as a result of demonetisation yet the Prime Minister “has not been able to” “bring back black money” that he had promised.
“Poor people are suffering because the Centre wanted to help 50 families”, she said, referring to certain high-profile people who are alleged to have put their black money in foreign accounts. “This is an anti-poor Government”.
Mamata Banerjee thanked the President “for his comments on intolerance” as a “regime of fear has been created in the country”.
She also castigated the BJP’s using the state broadcaster for its own ends, saying “Doordarshan has become Modidarshan”.
Mamata Banerjee said that because of the wrong polices and wrong decisions of the BJP-led Central Government, “the country is not safe under this Government”.
She outlined in brief the widespread ill-effect that demonetisation has had on the economy of the country: “Recession has set in. Farmers are suffering. The unorganised sector is in crisis. The revenues of States have shrunk by 25%”.
She reiterated that she and her party “will fight for the people”. She prophesied the victory of people power: “Ultimately this Government will lose and the people will win”.
The Chief Minister also criticised the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for “not disclosing how much money it has released to which State”.
She lambasted the BJP for conducting a politics of vendetta by “targeting everyone who are speaking against them”. As an example, she said: “They have raided Arvind Kejriwal’s officer. Even today they carried out raids in Delhi”.
She also reminded the people about the BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee asking “Modi to follow Raj Dharma after the Gujarat riots”.
Mamata Banerjee further pointed out the complete lack of sympathy that the Central Government has had for the sufferings it has brought on to the people: “111 people have lost their lives. How many BJP leaders have visited their houses?”
Further, the BJP’s “political vindictiveness can boomerang on them“ as “they are in power today but tomorrow they will not be”.
She exhorted the people of the country to teach the BJP a lesson by “defeating them in UP, Punjab, Uttarakhand and wherever else elections are going to be held”.
Mamata Banerjee also questioned the Centre’s asking “a State (Bengal) to foot the bill” for its sending the CRPF to the State.
Mamata Banerjee though said that she is “not afraid of them” as her “life has been one of struggle”; she does not mind to put up a further struggle.
The Chief Minister ender her press conference by making an announcement that is sure to bring a smile to the faces of State Government employees: “The West Bengal Government will give 10% DA (dearness allowance) to employees in January”.

নোট বাতিলের পঞ্চাশ দিন পূর্তিতে মোদি সরকারকে গরীব বিরোধী সরকার বলে আক্রমণ করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়৷
তিনি বলেন প্রধানমন্ত্রীর ঘোষণার যে উদ্দেশ্য ছিল, তা ব্যর্থ হয়েছে। উনি বিদেশ থেকে কালো টাকা ফিরিয়ে আনতে পারেননি।
তিনি ৫০ জন ধনীর জন্য ১১০ কোটি ভারতবাসীর দুর্দশার কারণ হয়েছেন। দেশের নিরাপত্তা বিক্রি করে দেওয়া হয়েছে। হাই প্রোফাইল লোকেরা যারা নিজেদের কালো টাকা বিদেশে রেখেছেন তাদের উদ্দেশ্যে তিনি বলেন ‘এই সরকার গরীব মানুষের বিরোধী”।
দেশের মানুষকে আজ ভয় দেখানো হচ্ছে, অসহিষ্ণুতার প্রতি রাষ্ট্রপতির মন্তব্যের জন্য তাঁকে ধন্যবাদ জানান মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।
বিজেপির সমালোচনা করে তিনি বলেন, “দূরদর্শন এখন মোদীদর্শন হয়ে গেছে”।
তিনি আরও বলেন বিজেপি পরিচালিত সরকাররের ভুল নীতি ও সিদ্ধান্তের কথা ফলে দেশ আজ চরম বিপদের সম্মুখীন। এই সরকারের অধীনে দেশ সুরক্ষিত নয়।
নোট বদলের জন্য দেশে যে পরিস্থিতির সৃষ্টি হয়েছে, তার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে এদিন জাতীয় সরকার গড়ার ডাক দেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।
তিনি বলেন, নোট বাতিল দেশের অর্থনীতির ওপর গভীর প্রভাব ফেলেছে। অর্থনৈতিক মন্দা তৈরি হয়েছে। কৃষকরা ভুগছে। অসংগঠিত সংস্থাগুলো সংকটে। রাজ্যের অ্যায় ২৫ শতাংশ কমে গেছে। দেশে একটা সমান্তরাল অর্থীনীতি চালানোর চেষ্টা চলছে। সেই অর্থনীতিতে জনতার সর্বনাশ হবে। আগে ব্যাঙ্ক ছিল ন্যাশনালাইজড, এখন হয়েছে ডিমরালাইজড।
তিনি মানুষের জন্য লড়াই চালিয়ে যাবেন এবং শেষ পর্যন্ত সরকার হারবে আর সাধারণ মানুষের জয় হবে। যারা ওদের বিরোধিতা করছে ওরা তাদের পেছনে এজেন্সি লাগিয়ে দিচ্ছে। উদাহরণস্বরূপ তিনি বলেন, কয়েকদিন আগেই কেজরিওয়ালের অফিসে রেড করেছে ওরা।
মুখ্যমন্ত্রী দুঃখ প্রকাশ করে বলেন, কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের নোট বাতিলের এই ড্রাকোনিয়ান সিদ্ধান্তের ফলে ১১১ জন মানুষ প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন। তাদের কত জনের বাড়িতে গেছেন বিজেপি নেতারা এই প্রশ্নও তোলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।
বিজেপির এই প্রতিহিংসামূলক রাজনীতি বুমেরাং হয়ে তাদের কাছে ফিরে যেতে পারে কোনদিন। আজ তারা ক্ষমতায় আছে কিন্তু আগামীকাল নাও থাকতে পারে। জনসাধারণের কাছে আসন্ন উত্তরপ্রদেশ, পাঞ্জাব ও উত্তরাখণ্ডের নির্বাচনে বিজেপিকে পরাজিত করে তাদের উচিত শিক্ষা দেওয়ার আবেদন জানান তিনি।
তিনি বলেন লড়াই করতে তিনি ভয় পান না এর আগেও তিনি অনেক সংগ্রাম করেছেন। নতুন সংগ্রামের জন্যও তিনি প্রস্তুত।
সাংবাদিক বৈঠকের শেষে তিনি জানান, আগামী ১ জানুয়ারি থেকে রাজ্য সরকারী কর্মীদের ১০ শতাংশ মহার্ঘ্য ভাতা (ডি এ) দেওয়া হবে।
