Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke to the media today at Uttarkanya, the secretariat for North Bengal in Siliguri.

She reiterated that peace has returned to the Hills, and said, “Let the Hills people be happy”.

About bringing the situation in Darjeeling under control, Mamata Banerjee said, “The law will take its own course”.

Heeding a long-standing demand of transporters and tourists, the Chief Minister said, the State Government has decided to allow cars registered in Darjeeling to be driven to the other districts in North Bengal, which was not the case till now

She said, for the sake of the stranded tourists, “we are continuing with the free bus services from Darjeeling for another 24 hours”.

Since tourism is the main industry in the Hills, it should never be affected by any untoward incidents, she said. “Trade, commerce and tourism need to be strengthened”

She reassured everyone that “I am continuing to monitor the situation from here”.

She said, “Bandh has been declared illegal by the court. Only those who can’t do anything else take recourse to bandhs; it is simply harassment of the people. Hope they realise their mistakes”. Later, on the same topic, she said, “We are not in favour of bandhs; during CPI(M) rule, 78 lakh man-days were lost”. Further, “We will declare the bandh called on June 13 by the tea workers illegal”.

About dealing with the situation through negotiations, Mamata Banerjee said, “There have been enough compromises; enough is enough. Compromise can happen for the sake of living a peaceful life, for the sake of negotiations. But compromise can’t happen when threatened with bombs and lathis”.

“We will bring complete peace and normalcy. In politics, you have to take the people along with you, not deceive them”. “There may be a few bad apples, but most are good”.

About the GTA elections, she said, “GTA elections can be held any time now; the new Board has to take oath before August 2. What work has been done during the last five years, the people will give their opinion on them”.

She reiterated, “I love the Hills, so I will come here again and again, whatever anyone says”; the reason also being that she has to “think about the whole State”. “I come to the Hills every month to know the situation first-hand, which never happened before”.

She said, “The CPI(M), Congress and BJP are doing negative politics”.

About the tea gardens, she criticised the BJP, saying, “Before the elections, the BJP had said the Centre would take over seven tea gardens, but even after one year, nothing has been done”.

On the other hand, she said, “Our Government has provided a lot of benefits to the tea gardens. We have helped the tea workers by giving them three months’ wages, rice at Rs 2 per kg and mobile ambulances. What we have done for the tea gardens, none had done before us”.

She warned that “if the tea industry closes down due to politics of hate, the CPI(M), Congress and BJP have to take responsibility. The State Government wants to negotiate while keeping the tea gardens working open”.

“I am in favour of trade unions in general, not for any particular union”.

About the army’s presence in Darjeeling, she said, “How long the Army stays, the administration will decide”

She also announced the dates of a few administrative review meetings – “for Bardhaman on June 30 and for Medinipur, on July 2 or 3”

 

 

আইন আইনের মতো চলবেঃ মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়

শিলিগুড়ির উত্তরকন্যায় সাংবাদিকদের মুখোমুখি হলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। তিনি সকলকে আশ্বস্ত করে বলেন, আমরা বারবার বলছি, পাহাড়ে শান্তি ফিরে এসছে, পাহাড় শান্ত থাকুক, ভালো থাকুক। যারা দোষ করেছে, তারা শাস্তি পাবে। আইন আইনের মতো চলবে, প্রশাসন প্রশাসনের কর্তব্য পালন করবে।

আটকে পড়া পর্যটকদের ব্যাপারে তিনি বলেন, যেহেতু অনেক রাস আছে, আগামী ২৪ ঘন্টা আরও ফ্রি বাস সার্ভিস থাকবে।

দার্জিলিঙের পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে তিনি বলেন, আজ ওখানের এসপি চেঞ্জ হয়েছে, অখিলেশ চতুর্বেদীকে দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে, তিনি রওনা হয়েছেন। এ ছাড়া হাইয়ার অফিসিয়াল জাভেদ শামিম, অজয় নন্দা ও সিদ্ধিনাথ গুপ্তা ওখানেই দায়িত্বে আছেন। বরুন রায়কে অ্যাডিশানাল চার্জ দিয়ে জিটিএ’র দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে। আমি এখান থেকে পরিস্থিতির ওপর নজর রাখছি। সেনা কতদিন মোতায়েন থাকবে, তা প্রশাসন সিদ্ধান্ত নেবে।

উন্নয়নের স্বার্থে ও পাহাড়বাসি ও পর্যটক, পর্যটন শিল্পে যুক্ত মানুষদের সুবিধার্থে তিনি বলেন, বাম আমলের জারি করা বিধি নিষেধ ছিল, ওখানকার ট্রান্সপোর্টার ও পর্যটকদের দীর্ঘদিনের অভিযোগ মেনে ওখানকার গাড়ি সব জায়গায় যাওয়ার আনুমাতি দেওয়া হলো।

পাহাড়বাসির উদ্দেশ্যে তিনি বলেন, ট্যুরিসম একটি বড় শিল্প, পাহাড়ে ট্যুরিসম মূল শিল্প। ট্রেড, কমার্স, ট্যুরিসম এই জায়গাটাকে আমাদের আরও শক্তিশালী করতে হবে। কয়েকজন খারাপ হতে পারে, কিন্তু, ভালো মানুষের ওপর ভরসা রাখতে হবে।

বিচ্ছিন্নতাবাদীদের ব্যাপারে বলেন, নিজে কিছু করতে পারছি না বলে, বার বার বনধ ডেকে মানুষের ক্ষতি করব, এটা ঠিক নয়। আশা করি শুভ বুদ্ধির উদয় হবে। কম্প্রোমাইসের ধাক্কা খেতে খেতে দেওয়ালে পিঠ ঠেকে গেছে। কম্প্রোমাইস হয় শান্তির স্বার্থে, নেগসিয়েসানের স্বার্থে, ভালো থাকার স্বার্থে। কিন্তু, কম্প্রোমাইস সবসময় হয় না, কম্প্রোমাইস কখনও বোমা দিয়ে লাঠি দিয়ে হয় না। সম্পূর্ণ শান্তি রক্ষা করেই আমরা সবাই চলব। রাজনীতিতে মানুষকে ভুল বুঝিয়ে নয়, মানুষকে সাথে নিয়ে চলতে হয়। ওরা ব্লক নিয়ে চিন্তা করে, আমি পুরো বাংলা নিয়ে চিন্তা করি। আমি পাহাড়ে রোজ যাব, পাহাড়কে আমি খুব ভালবাসি, পাহাড়ে আমরা সিএমও-ও করছি। পাহাড়ও আমার প্রিয়, জঙ্গলও প্রিয়, পুরো বাংলাই আমার প্রিয়। পাহাড়ে আমি প্রতি মাসে আসি, তাতে অনেকের রাগ, আগে কেউ যেত না, লুটেপুটে খেত।

জিটিএ নির্বাচন নিয়ে তিনি বলেন, ৫বছরে কি কাজ করেছে, এটা জনতা ঠিক করবে। ২রা অগস্ট-এর মধ্যে নতুন বোর্ডকে শপথ নিতে হবে, তার আগে নির্বাচন হয়ে যাবে। পাহাড় হাস্তে রহে, পাহাড় মে শান্তি রহে।

অন্যান্য রাজনৈতিক দল যারা পরোক্ষ ভাবে পাহাড়কে অশান্ত করতে চাইছে, তাদের ব্যাপারে বলেন, সিপিএম কংগ্রেস বিজেপি নোংরা রাজনীতি করছে। ইলেকশনের আগে বিজেপি বলেছিল সাতটা চা বাগান অধিগ্রহণ করবে, এক বছর হয়ে গেছে, একটাও করেনি। নোংরা রাজনীতিতে চা শিল্প বন্ধ হলে তার দায়িত্ব সিপিএম, কংগ্রেস, বিজেপিকে নিতে হবে। যদি চা বাগান বন্ধ হয়ে যায়, চা বাগান শ্রমিকরা ছেড়ে কথা বলবে না।

চা শিল্পের ব্যাপারে বলেন, আমরা চা শিল্পে সাহায্য করছি, তারা তিন মাসে টাকা পায়, দু’টাকা কিলো চাল পায়, মোবাইল আম্বুলেন্স দিয়ি। এই সরকার অনেক সুবিধে বাড়িয়েছে। আমরা চা বাগানের জন্য যা করেছি, কেউ এর আগে করেনি।

আগামী ১৩ তারিখের বন্ধের ব্যাপারে বলেন, সরকার বন্ধের পক্ষে নয়, খোলা রেখে আলোচনা করতে পারে। সিপিএম আমলে ৭৮ লক্ষ ম্যানডেজ নষ্ট হয়েছে। আমরা ১৩তারিখের বনধকে সাপোর্ট করব না ও বেআইনি ঘোষণা করব। হাই কোর্টও বনধকে বেআইনি ঘোষণা করেছেন।

তবে ট্রেড ইউনিয়নগুলিকে আশ্বস্ত করে বলেন, আমি ট্রেড ইউনিওনের পক্ষে কিন্তু কাউর একার ট্রেডের পক্ষে না। আমি ক্ষমতায় আছি বলেই নিজেকে সুপারপাওয়ার ভাবা উচিত না।

বৈঠকের শেষে তিনি ঘোষণা করেন, বর্ধমানে প্রশাসনিক বৈঠক হবে ৩০সে জুন, মেদিনীপুরে হবে ২রা বা ৩রা জুলাই।
