Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee formally re-commenced farming on the plots of land in Singur which were given away to Tata Motors’ Nano project by the Left Front government, by sowing seeds of mustard on those plots.
The process of giving physical possession of the land in Singur to around 4,000 farmers was also started today, with the Chief Minister handing over plots to some of the farmers. She also inaugurated the first of the 66 deep tube-well pumps that the State Government would install for proper irrigation of the 997 acres of farm land.
During her last visit to Singur on September 14, a few days after the Supreme Court verdict in favour of the farmers, Mamata Banerjee had distributed the deeds of right to the plots of land to their respective owners. The task of converting the land into cultivable form had begun within a day of the Supreme Court’s passing of the order.
In her speech after the ceremony, she said that the State Government has handed over 103 acres of land to the farmers for cultivation today, and that it will complete the handing over of “all the land to their respective owners by November 10″, adding that the work of making the land cultivable was left to done on only 65 of the 997 acres.
Besides, the Government also handed over “seeds and agricultural equipment to farmers today”.
She stressed on the fact that her Government has strictly followed the Supreme Court order and has spared no efforts in making the land cultivable again.
She was very happy today, saying, “We have to save the greenery; Singur is smiling again”.
Underlining the pivotal place of the Singur Movement in the history of agitation for land rights, she said, “The Singur movement will become an international model for land rights”. She also said, “The Singur Movement teaches us that we should never run away from a fight”.
She thanked all the people who had helped her in bringing the land back to its original state: “I thank every officer and the local people for their help in getting the land ready for farming”. The Chief Minister also thanked “all the intellectuals, artistes and others who supported the movement”.
She also promised, “We will make a monument to commemorate the sacrifice and the hard work of the people of Singur”.
Mamata Banerjee reminded everyone, “Good governance depends on team work, transparency and fulfilling promises”.
Thousands of people from different parts of the State, including those involved with the movement, had turned up in Singur today to witness the historic moment when the Chief Minister completed the process of giving physical possession of the plots to the farmers.
সবুজের মাঝে সিঙ্গুরে নতুন করে হাসি ফোটাও: মুখ্যমন্ত্রী
আজ আবার জমির অধিকার ফিরে পেল সিঙ্গুরের কৃষকরা৷ প্রায় ৯ বছর আগে যে জমিতে নেমে চারা পুঁতে আন্দোলনের বীজ রোপণ করেছিলেন, লক্ষ্মীবারে সেই জমিতে নেমেই মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় তাদের সরষের বীজ দিলেন৷ মাঝে চলে গিয়েছে আন্দোলনের দীর্ঘ সময়৷ ধারাবাহিক কৃষক আন্দোলনের জয় এসেছে তাঁর নেতৃত্বেই৷ এবার তাই আইনি জয়ের পর সুপ্রিম কোর্টের নির্দেশ মেনে পুরনো কারখানার অংশের জমি চাষযোগ্য করে কৃষকদের ফিরিয়ে দিলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী৷
উচ্চ আদালতের নির্দেশ ছিল, ১২ সপ্তাহের মধ্যেই কৃষকদের জমি চাষযোগ্য করে ফিরিয়ে দিতে হবে৷ নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের তিন সপ্তাহ আগেই শুরু হয়েছে প্রক্রিয়া৷
সেপ্টেম্বরের প্রথম থেকেই সিঙ্গুরজুড়ে শুরু হয়েছিল বিজয় উৎসবের আনন্দ৷ গত ১৪ সেপ্টেম্বর মুখ্যমন্ত্রী নিজে গিয়ে আশ্বাস দিয়েছিলেন জমি ফিরিয়ে দেওয়ার৷ সেদিন হয়েছিল কেন্দ্রীয় বিজয় উৎসব৷ আর বৃহস্পতিবার জমি ফিরে পাওয়ার আনন্দে দ্বিতীয়বার বিজয় উৎসব পালন করল সিঙ্গুরের মানুষ৷
এদিন সভামঞ্চ থেকে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী ঘোষণা করেন যে আজ মোট ১০৩ একর জমি চাষযোগ্য করে ফেরত দেওয়া হল কৃষকদের। বাকি জমি আগামী ১০ নভেম্বরের মধ্যে চাষযোগ্য করে কৃষকদের ফেরত দিয়ে দেওয়া হবে। ৯৯৭ একর জমির মধ্যে ৬৫ একর জমির কাজ বাকি আছে।
জমি হস্তান্তরের পাশাপাশি, আজ কৃষকদের শস্যকিট ও চাষের সরঞ্জামও দেওয়া হল।
মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন সুপ্রিম কোর্টের নির্দেশ মেনে নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের আগেই কৃষকদের জমি ফেরত দেওয়া হচ্ছে চাষযোগ্য করে।
তাঁর কথায়, সবুজ জাগাও, সবুজ বাঁচাও, সবুজের মাঝে সিঙ্গুরে নতুন করে হাসি ফোটাও।
তিনি আরও বলেন, “সিঙ্গুর আন্দোলন আগামীদিনে সারা বিশ্বের মডেল হবে। সিঙ্গুর আন্দোলন আমাদের শিখিয়েছে যে লড়াই ছেড়ে কখনও পালিয়ে যেতে নেই। নিজের অধিকার আদায় করে নিতে হয়। আর সিঙ্গুরের জমি ফেরত হল সেই লড়াইয়ের এই সুফল”।
এত তাড়াতাড়ি জমি চাষযোগ্য করতে অফিসাররা ও এলাকার সকল মানুষ অনেক সহযোগিতা করেছেন, সেজন্য তিনি তাদের ধন্যবাদ জানিয়েছেন। এছাড়া যেসকল বুদ্ধিজীবী, শিল্পী ও সাধারণ মানুষকে যারা সিঙ্গুর আন্দোলনকে সমর্থন করেছেন তাদেরকেও মুখ্যমন্ত্রী ধন্যবাদ জানান।
তিনি প্রতিশ্রুতি দেন যে সিঙ্গুরের আন্দোলনকারী কৃষকদের স্মরণে একটি স্মারক তৈরি হবে। তাঁর কথায়, সুষ্ঠু প্রশাসনের প্রধান দিক হল একসঙ্গে কাজ করা, স্বচ্ছতা, কথা দিয়ে কথা রাখা।
রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন প্রান্ত থেকে হাজার হাজার লোক এবং যারা সেদিন সিঙ্গুর আন্দোলনে সামিল হয়েছিলেন সকলে আজ আর একবার সিঙ্গুরের এই ঐতিহাসিক মুহূর্তের সাক্ষী হয়ে রইলেন।
