All India Trinamool Congress will organise rallies in every block of Bengal as well as in other States to mark International Women’s Day.

Every year Trinamool marks International Women’s Day every year with rallies and various activities. Mamata Banerjee has led rallies in the past too, in Kolkata.

It may be mentioned that while the Parliament is yet to enact the Women’s Reservation Bill, Trinamool already has 34% women MPs in Lok Sabha. The Bengal Govt has taken several initiatives for women’s empowerment, including the internationally acclaimed Kanyashree scheme.

আন্তর্জাতিক নারী দিবস উপলক্ষে সারা রাজ্যে ব্লকে ব্লকে পদযাত্রার আয়োজন করেছে তৃণমূল। এই বিশেষ দিনে সারা বিশ্বের সকল মা ও বোনেদের শুভেচ্ছা বার্তা দেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

সরকারে আসার পর থেকেই এ’রাজ্যে নারী বিকাশের ক্ষেত্রে তাঁর চিন্তাধারা ও কর্মসূচী সারা বিশ্বের নজর কেড়েছে। কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্প মেয়েদের শিক্ষার প্রসারের ক্ষেত্রে এক বিশাল ভুমিকা পালন করছে। তাঁদের স্বাবলম্বী করে তোলার লক্ষ্যে কর্মসংস্থানের বন্দোবস্ত করার পাশাপাশি বিভিন্ন স্বনির্ভর গোষ্ঠী তৈরি করে তিনি মহিলাদের পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছেন। এমনকি এই স্বনির্ভর গোষ্ঠীর তৈরি অনেক জিনিসপত্রের বিপণনের দায়িত্বও নিয়েছেন রাজ্য সরকার।

যদিও সংসদ এখনো ওমেন্স রেজারভেশন বিল পাশ করতে পারেনি, তৃণমূল লোকসভায় ৩৪% মহিলা সাংসদ নিয়ে নজির গড়েছে।

After dealing with private hospitals, next on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s radar are private educational institutions.

“There are a lot of good private schools, colleges and universities but some of them charge so much in terms of fees and donations. Those who can pay up, I have nothing to say but I believe there should be some control without interfering in their autonomy,” Mamata Banerjee said at the state Assembly on Friday.

She said that after the ongoing board exams were over, she would convene a meeting. “Madhyamik exams are on. Then there will be the higher secondary (exams), followed by the ICSE and the CBSE. After the board exams, I will ask the education minister to call authorities of the private educational institutions. They provide education to youngsters who are our future. I will ask authorities of these educational institutions to chalk out a plan so that we can formulate a policy based on that,” she said.

 

বেসরকারি হাসপাতালের পর এবার বেসরকারি শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে নজর মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর

স্বাস্থ্যের পর এবার মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর নজর বেনিয়মে চলা বেসরকারি শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে। বেসরকারি হাসপাতালের যথেচ্ছাচার নিয়ন্ত্রণে বিল পেশের মঞ্চ থেকেই মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় জানিয়ে দিলেন এ কথা।

শুক্রবার স্বাস্থ্য-বিল নিয়ে বক্তব্য রাখতে উঠে শিক্ষার প্রসঙ্গ টেনে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “এখনও মনে করি, অনেক প্রাইভেট স্কুল খুব ভাল। তবে কেউ কেউ এত বেশি চার্জ নেয়, এত বেশি ডোনেশন নেয়, কোথাও একটা নিয়ন্ত্রণ থাকা দরকার।” পরীক্ষা-মরশুম মিটলেই তিনি বেসরকারি স্কুল-কলেজের কর্তাদের সঙ্গে বৈঠক করবেন। তাঁদের পরামর্শ নিয়েই নির্দিষ্ট নীতি তৈরি করতে চান তিনি।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর কথায়, “এতে ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের ভাল হবে। ভাল ভাল ছেলে মেয়ে তৈরি হবে। মাধ্যমিক শেষ হয়েছে। উচ্চমাধ্যমিক, সিবিএসই, আইসিএসই রয়েছে। পরীক্ষা শেষ হয়ে গেলেই স্কুল কর্তৃপক্ষের সঙ্গে এ ব্যাপারে কথা বলব। ওঁদের বলব, আপনারাই বলুন, কী করা উচিত। দেখতে হবে, কারও যেন অসুবিধা না হয়।” স্কুল কর্তৃপক্ষের সঙ্গে আলোচনা করেই নির্দিষ্ট নীতি তৈরি করার কথা বলেছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

এছাড়া ইংরেজি মাধ্যম স্কুলে বাংলা বা নেপালির মতো আঞ্চলিক ভাষাকে পাঠ্য বিষয়ের অন্তর্ভুক্ত করায় জোর দিয়েছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। ওই সমস্ত স্কুলে যাতে বাংলা বা আঞ্চলিক ভাষা পড়ানো হয়, সেদিকে নজর দেবে প্রশাসন।

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s sustained push towards employment generation and empowerment of the youth has been generating results. The India Skills Report 2017 gives another proof of that.

The State is ranked number one in the category of ‘Employable Candidates in the Age Group of 18-21’, and a commendable number three in the category of ‘Employable Candidates in the Age Group of 26-29’.

The holistic educational policies being followed by the Trinamool Congress Government in Bengal is also bearing rich fruits. In the categories of both ‘English as Second Language’ and ‘Numerical Abilities’, the State is ranked number one, according to India Skills Report 2017, while in ‘Critical Thinking’, it is in the second position. In ‘Computer Skills’, Bengal stands at number four.

In the category of ‘States with Highest Employable Population’, Bengal stands at number three. It is important to note that in all the above categories, the State’s ranking has improved with respect to the previous years, as is evident from the previous reports.

Bengal also did well in the category of ‘Employable Women’. In the city-wise category, Kolkata took the top spot, while the State as a whole is at the sixth position.

 

‘ইন্ডিয়া স্কিল রিপোর্ট ২০১৭’ তে বাংলার জয়জয়কার

বাংলার যুব সম্প্রদায়কে স্বাবলম্বী হয়ে ওঠার যে ঐকান্তিক প্রয়াস মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় করছেন তার ফল স্বরূপ ‘ইন্ডিয়া স্কিল রিপোর্ট ২০১৭’ তে বাংলার জয়জয়কার।

‘১৮ থেকে ২১ বছরের মধ্যে নিয়োগের যোগ্য প্রার্থী’ বিভাগে সব রাজ্যকে পিছে ফেলে দিয়ে বাংলা এক নম্বরে। ‘২৬ থেকে ২৯ বছরের মধ্যে নিয়োগের যোগ্য প্রার্থী’ বিভাগে বাংলার স্থান তিন নম্বরে।

মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নেতৃত্বে যে বাংলায় শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থার মানও উন্নত হয়েছে তার প্রমান মিলল এই রিপোর্টে। ‘ইংরেজি দ্বিতীয় ভাষা’ বিভাগে এবং ‘সংখ্যাগত দক্ষতা’ বিভাগে বাংলার স্থান রাজ্যগুলির মধ্যে শীর্ষে। ‘সমালোচনামূলক চিন্তাধারা’ বিভাগে বাংলা পেয়েছে দ্বিতীয় স্থান এবং ‘কম্পিউটার শিক্ষা’ বিভাগে চতুর্থ স্থানে রাজ্যের।

‘নিয়োগের যোগ্য জনগণ’ বিভাগে রাজ্য তৃতীয় স্থান অধিকার করেছে। ‘নিয়োগের যোগ্য মহিলা’ বিভাগে কলকাতা দেশের সব শহরকে টেক্কা দিয়ে এক নম্বর স্থানে। এই বিভাগে সামগ্রিক ভাবে রাজ্যের অবস্থান ৬ নম্বরে।

গত কয়েক বছরের তুলনায় ২০১৭র এই রিপোর্টে বাংলার স্থান অনেকটাই উন্নত হয়েছে। এর পুরো কৃতিত্ব অবশ্যই প্রাপ্য মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের দূরদর্শিতা ও নেতৃত্ব।

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday wrote to the Union Minister for External Affairs on the recent incidents of attacks and unfortunate deaths of young Indians in the United States.

On Sunday, she had condemned the killing of two Indians in the US and urged New Delhi to take up the matter with Washington.

“Two more shocking killings of Indians in the US. GOI (Government of India) must take this up with the US government on an urgent basis,” she had tweeted.

The CM said that she requested the Union Minister to kindly see that the matter is taken up at the highest level, so that these types of incidents do not recur and the Indians living in the US feel safe, secure and worry-free.

আমেরিকায় ভারতীয়দের খুনের ঘটনায় উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর

আমেরিকাতে ভারতীয়দের খুনের ঘটনায় উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ করে কেন্দ্রীয় বিদেশমন্ত্রীকে চিঠি লিখলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

রবিবার তিনি ট্যুইট করে কেন্দ্রকে আর্জি জানান এই ব্যাপারে মার্কিন সরকারের সাথে কথা বলতে।

“আমেরিকা নিহত হয়েছেন দুই ভারতীয়। আমি স্তম্ভিত। ভারত সরকারের উচিত অবিলম্বে মার্কিন সরকারের সাথে এই বিষয়ে কথা বলার।” ট্যুইট করে বলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

তিনি আজ ফেসবুকে লেখেন যে তিনি কেন্দ্রীয় বিদেশমন্ত্রীকে অনুরোধ করেছেন যেন এই ঘটনাগুলি উচ্চপর্যায়ে আলোচনা করা হয়। তিনি আরও লেখেন যে এই ধরণের ঘটনা যাতে ভবিষ্যতে আর না ঘটে তা নিশ্চিত করতে হবে এবং আমেরিকাতে বসবাসকারী ভারতীয়রা যেন নির্ভয়ে, নিরাপদে থাকতে পারেন তাও সুনিশ্চিত করতে হবে।

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today slammed at the Centre’s decision to make Aadhaar mandatory for mid-day meals in schools.

She questioned whether even infants (0-5 years) will need Aadhar cards now? She termed the decision to have Aadhaar card for mid-day meals and ICDS and  100 Days’ Work as shocking.

Mamata Banerjee wondered why instead of helping the poorest of the poor, the downtrodden and children, the Centre is snatching away their rights. She said that in the name of Aadhaar, privacy is being lost and there is extortion.

Mamata Banerjee said that as a nation we must protest against this.

“এখন থেকে কি ০-৫ বছরের শিশুরও আধার কার্ড লাগবে? মিড-ডে মিল ও আইসিডিএসের জন্যও আধার কার্ড? অবিশ্বাস্য! একশো দিনের কাজও বাদ যায়নি। গরিব, খেটে-খাওয়া মানুষ, আমাদের প্রিয় শিশুদের তাদের অধিকার থেকে বঞ্চিত করা হচ্ছে কেন? আধারের নামে মানুষের গোপনীয়তা ক্ষুন্ন করা হচ্ছে। এটাতো এক্সটরশান! কেন্দ্রের মনোভাব এত নেতিবাচক কেন? সারা দেশে এর প্রতিবাদ হয় উচিত।”

आधार को लेके केंद्र की तीब्र निंदा किया ममता बनर्जी ने।  उन्होंने कहा की आधार के नाम पर गोपनीयता नष्ट की जा रही है। आधार को एक तरह की ‘वसूली’ भी कहा उन्होंने। ममता बनर्जी ने कहा की पूरे देश में इसका विरोध होना चाहिए।

Mamata Banerjee led Government has ushered in sweeping reforms in healthcare system in the State with the new West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation and Transparency) Bill, 2017.

The bill aims to regulate the private hospitals and bring in transparency in the manner in which they operate.

It may be mentioned that on 22 February, the Chief Minister had conducted a meeting with representatives of various private hospitals and nursing homes in Kolkata. In the meeting she had announced the formation of a regulatory commission for private hospitals.

Highlights of the bill:

  • From bed charge to cost of surgery or ICU charges, all packages must have a specific charge. Patients must not be charged more than what is mentioned in the rate chart.
  • Additional costs, if any, during the course of treatment, cannot exceed a certain percentage of the package. The additional cost must be clearly specified in the bill.
  • Every hospital must display the fixed rate chart.
  • e-prescriptions and all medical records must be given to patients.
  • Help desks must be set up to assist families of patients regarding any information about the bill or treatment.
  • Hospitals cannot withhold the bodies of deceased patients if bill is pending.
  • Primary treatment must be provided to accident victims before informing the police.
  • Hospitals with more than 100 beds must start fair price medicine shops.
  • If any hospital violates the new law, they will be fined Rs 10 lakh or more. Government also has the right to cancel their license.

 

মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের হাত ধরে স্বাস্থ্যক্ষেত্রে বিরাট সংস্কার

এবার হাসপাতালের লাগাম ছাড়া বিলে রাশ টানতে কড়া আইন আনলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। নতুন যে আইন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী তৈরি করছেন, তাতে কী থাকছে?

• নতুন বিলের নাম ওয়েস্ট বেঙ্গল ক্লিনিক্যাল এস্টাব্লিশমেন্টস (রেজিস্ট্রেশন, রেগুলেশন অ্যান্ড ট্রান্সপেরেন্সি) বিল ২০১৭।

• অপারেশন থেকে শুরু করে বেডের চার্জ, আইসিইউ থেকে যেকোনও প্যাকেজের দর নির্দিষ্ট করে রাখতে হবে। তার থেকে বেশি টাকা কোনও অবস্থাতেই নেওয়া যাবে না।

• চিকিৎসা চলাকালীন আরও কোনও খরচ বাড়লেও সেই রেট বা চার্জের বাইরে একটি নির্দিষ্ট শতাংশ টাকাই অতিরিক্ত হিসেবে বিলে সংযোজন করা যাবে। অতিরিক্ত খরচের সবটা বিলে স্পষ্ট করে উল্লেখ করতে হবে।

• ফিক্সড রেট চার্ট টাঙিয়ে দিতে হবে প্রত্যেকটি হাসপাতালে।

• ই-প্রেসক্রিপশন ও সব মেডিক্যাল রেকর্ডসের ই-কপি সব রোগীকে সরবরাহ করতে হবে।

• বিল ও চিকিৎসা সংক্রান্ত সমস্ত তথ্য রোগীর পরিবারকে জানানোর জন্য হাসপাতালে হেল্প ডেস্ক স্থাপন করতে হবে।

• বিল বাকি থাকলেও মৃতদেহ কোনও ভাবে আটকে রাখা যাবে না।

• দুর্ঘটনায় আহত ব্যক্তিকে হাসপাতালে নিয়ে গেলে আগে প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা করে তার পর পুলিশকে জানাতে হবে।

• ১০০ বা তার বেশি শয্যাবিশিষ্ট হাসপাতালে ফেয়ার প্রাইস মেডিসিন শপ চালু করতে হবে।

• নতুন আইনের কোনও ধারা অমান্য করলে বেসরকারি হাসাপাতালের ১০ লাখ টাকার বেশি জরিমানা এবং লাইসেন্স বাতিলের ক্ষমতা থাকছে রাজ্য সরকারের হাতে।

The Wildlife Wing of Forest Department manages 4692 sq km of protected area network, i.e., 5.28% of geographical area of state (as of 2015), up from 4.56% prior to 2013. The Bengal Government is committed to the conservation and protection of wildlife in the State and has taken several initiatives for the same.

The Wildlife Wing has achieved great success in the conservation of Rhino and Elephant habitat. The population of Rhinos touched 236 and Elephants touched 647 in 2015, the highest in the last few decades. Recent ‘Camera Trap’ technology showed healthy population of tigers in the wild and for the first time, a census of crocodiles was done in 2012 in state.

The most notable initiatives of West Bengal Zoo Authority are starting of works of Sunderban Wild Animal Park at Jharkhali and North Bengal wild Animal Park at Siliguri. Padmaza Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Darjeeling now acquired the status of best zoological park in the country.

A new wildlife sanctuary, Pakhi Bitan, was notified at Gajoldoba in North Bengal for conserving the habitat and protecting populations of migratory birds.

Bengal Safari Park, spread over 297 hectares of natural forest land consisting of sal and other trees, was inaugurated by the Chief Minister in January, 2016. The park has a mixed herbivore and a tiger safari was recently inaugurated. Lesser cats, fresh water crocodile and gharial and representative birds of North Bengal are displayed in large enclosures in the park.

বন্যপ্রাণী সংরক্ষন ও নিরাপত্তায় বদ্ধপরিকর রাজ্য সরকার; এই উদ্দেশ্যে অনেক পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে।

রাজ্য বনদপ্তরের অন্তর্গত বন্যপ্রাণী বিভাগ রাজ্যের ৪৬৯২ বর্গ কিঃ মিঃ অঞ্চলকে নিয়ন্ত্রন করে। এই অঞ্চলটির আয়তন গোটা রাজ্যের আয়তনের ৫.২৮ শতাংশ (২০১৫ সাল পর্যন্ত), যা ২০১৩ সাল অবধি ৪.৫৬ শতাংশ ছিল।

গণ্ডার ও হাতি’র সংরক্ষনে ইতিমধ্যেই সাফল্য অর্জন করেছে বন্যপ্রাণী বিভাগ। গণ্ডারের সংখ্যা ২৩৬ ও হাতির সংখ্যা ৬৪৭ হয়েছে ২০১৫ সালের গণনা অনুযায়ী। অত্যাধুনিক “ক্যামেরা ট্র্যাপ” প্রযুক্তিতে দেখা গেছে বাঘেদের জনসংখ্যাও বেশ ভাল। ২০১২ সালে রাজ্যে প্রথমবার কুমিরের গণনা করা হয়।

West Bengal Zoo Authority-র উল্লেখযোগ্য পদক্ষেপ হিসেবে বলা যেতে পারে, ঝড়খালিতে ‘সুন্দরবন ওয়াইল্ডলাইফ পার্ক ও শিলিগুড়িতে ‘উত্তরবঙ্গ বন্য প্রাণী পার্ক তৈরী। দার্জিলিঙের ‘পদ্মজা নাইডু হিমালয়ান জুলজিকাল পার্ক’ দেশের সেরা চিড়িয়াখানা হিসেবে স্বীকৃত।

পরিযায়ী পাখিদের সংরক্ষন ও নিরাপত্তা প্রদানের উদ্দেশ্যে নির্মিত উত্তরবঙ্গের গাজলডোবার “পাখি বিতান” হল একটি নতুন উদ্যোগ।

২৯৭ হেক্টর জমিতে তৈরী বেঙ্গল সাফারি পার্ক উদ্বোধন করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় ২০১৬ সালের জানুয়ারি মাসে। ওই পার্কে কিছুদিন আগেই টাইগার সাফারির উদ্বোধন করা হয়। কুমির ও ঘড়িয়ালের পাশাপাশি উত্তরবঙ্গের কিছু পরিচিত পাখিও প্রচুর সংখ্যায় দেখা যাবে এখানে।

More than 360 poets and elocutionists will participate in the three-day ‘Kobita Utsab’, organised by the Paschimbanga Kobita Academy. The festival will begin on Friday with a rally in which eminent poets and elocutionist would voice their views. The rally would start around 4 pm from near the statue of Rabindranath Tagore and will end at Nandan after passing through the Kolkata Information Centre.

It may be mentioned that the setting up of the Kobita Academy – a first-of-its-kind institution in the country which promotes poetry and acts as a forum for poets all over the state – was the brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. ‘Kobita Utsab’ will be held at Rabindra Sadan, Sisir Mancha and auditorium of Bangla Academy. This is the first time that such a major endeavour has been taken to organise a festival exclusively for poets and elocutionists.

Poet Nirendranath Chakraborty will inaugurate the Kobita Utsab on Friday at Rabidndra Sadan. Fellow poet Monindra Gupta will be felicitated with ‘Jibanananda Samman” and elocutionist Pradip Ghosh will be awarded the ‘Kazi Sabyasachi Samman’. Besides recitation of poems, there will be seminars on poetry which will be held at the festival.

আজ থেকে রবীন্দ্রসদনে শুরু হচ্ছে কবিতা উ९সব। পশ্চিমবঙ্গ কবিতা অ্যাকাডেমি আয়োজিত তিন দিনের এই কবিতা উ९সবে ৩৬০ জনেরও বেশি শিল্পী অংশগ্রহণ করবে।

আজ বিকেল চারটেয় রবীন্দ্র সদন চত্বরে রবীন্দ্রনাথের মূর্তির সামনে থেকে কবি শিল্পীদের একটি মিছিল শুরু হবে শেষ হবে নন্দনে। মিছিলের ব্যানারে থাকবে সুভাষ মুখোপাধ্যায়ের কবিতার পঙক্তি– একটু পা চালিয়ে ভাই।

উল্লেখ্য, কবিতা অ্যাকাডেমি গঠন করার অভিনব চিন্তাধারা মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের। কবিতার প্রসারে এমন এক অ্যাকাডেমি বানানোর উদ্যোগ দেশে নজিরবিহীন।

রবীন্দ্র সদন ছাড়াও শিশির মঞ্চ ও বাংলা অ্যাকাডেমি অডিটোরিয়ামে হবে এই ‘কবিতা উ९সব’। তিনদিন ব্যাপী এই উ९সবের উদ্বোধন করবেন নীরেন্দ্রনাথ চক্রবর্তী। আজ এই উ९সবসন্ধ্যায় ‘জীবনানন্দ সম্মান’ পাবেন কবি মণীন্দ্র গুপ্ত, ‘কাজি সব্যসাচী সম্মান’ পাবেন আবৃত্তিকার প্রদীপ ঘোষ।

Chinese Ambassador to India Luo Zhaohu on Thursday extended an invitation to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to visit his country for exploring business possibilities in manufacturing and other key sectors of the two countries.

The Ambassador, heading a five-member delegation including Chinese Consul-Genral in Kolkata Ma Zhanwu, called on Banerjee at the state secretariat Nabanna.

“Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to India and the Consul-General of China in Kolkata had a meeting with me at the state secretariat today (Thursday).

“He extended an invitation to us to visit China to explore Bengal-China business possibilities in manufacturing and other key sectors,” Banerjee said in a Facebook post.

Zhaohu and Banerjee had elaborate discussions about the business possibilities in many areas.

 

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের সাথে দেখা করলেন চীনের রাষ্ট্রদূত

বৃহস্পতিবার নবান্নে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের সঙ্গে দেখা করলেন চীনের রাষ্ট্রদূত লিও জং হুই। পাঁচ সদস্যের এক চীনা প্রতিনিধি দল এদিন মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বৈঠক করেন। এ রাজ্যে বিনিয়োগ করতে আগ্রহী চীন।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী তাঁর ফেসবুক পেজে লেখেন, “আজ (বৃহস্পতিবার) নবান্নে চীনের রাষ্ট্রদূত লিও জং হুই আমার সঙ্গে দেখা করেন। বাংলা-চীনের বাণিজ্য সম্পর্ক আরও দৃঢ় করার জন্য উনি আমায় চীন সফরে যাওয়ার আমন্ত্রণ জানান”।

বিভিন্ন জায়গায় বিনিয়োগের সম্ভাবনা নিয়ে এদিন বিস্তারিত আলোচনা হয় তাদের মধ্যে।

After Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s special emphasis on increasing the green cover across the cities in the state, the Urban Development department has decided to spend Rs 650 crore to ensure the same. The schemes taken up under the Green City Mission include conservation of waterbodies, illumination through LED lights, installation of high mast lights, landscaping along historic buildings, development of parks and green spaces. Emphasis has also been given to improve IT-enabled citizen services and safe transportation system.

Firhad Hakim, the state Urban Development minister said: “Plans have been taken for comprehensive development of the areas. The areas should look nice and this is possible only if infrastructure is improved.”  On February 23, the Minister met the Mayors and Chairpersons of the urban local bodies at the Unnayan Bhavan and urged them to make schemes to increase the green cover.

Under Mission Nirmal Bangla, ten integrated solid waste management projects at an estimated cost of Rs 421.69 crore have been approved for 14 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).  The department has allocated Rs 4.52  crore for all the 125 ULBs to create awareness against malaria and dengue. It has also taken the initiative to provide safe drinking water in all the ULBs. Safe Drinking Water Project has been commissioned in 34 ULBs and the work is in progress in 51 ULBs.
