Pipelined drinking water has now reached most homes in Bengal
The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has been one of the best-performing departments of the Trinamool Congress-led West Bengal Government. The water supply situation in the State has improved by leaps and bounds. The department used 121% of the funds allotted, as per the report card on administrative spends announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
A ‘Vision – 2020’ document has been adopted by the department to provide safe drinking water to each and every household at an estimated cost of Rs 21,125 crore, at the rate of 70 litres per capita per day (LPCD). Hard numbers easily tell the story: 587 new piped water supply schemes commissioned during 2011 to 2015 (till March 31) as against 188 from 2007 to 2011; a total of 704 are likely to be commissioned by May 2016.
Among the piped drinking water projects recently inaugurated are the ones in Shaltora, Chhatna and Sarenga blocks in Bankura district, in Suri 1 and 2, Sainthia and Raipur blocks in Birbhum, in Beniagram and Hariharpara blocks and in Berhampur in Murshidabad district, in Kalabazar and Manbazar-II blocks in Purulia, and in Mathurabil in North 24-Parganas district.

তৃণমূল পরিচালিত সরকারের আমলে জনস্বাস্থ্য ও কারিগরি বিভাগ কাজের নিরিখে শ্রেষ্ঠ। সাড়া রাজ্যে পানীয় জল সরবরাহ ধাপে ধাপে অনেক উন্নত হয়েছে। শেষ প্রশাসনিক বৈঠকে পাওয়া চূড়ান্ত রিপোর্টের ভিত্তিতে এই বিভাগ তাদের বরাদ্দ তহবিলের ১২১% খরচ করেছে।
ভিশন ২০২০ পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী জনস্বাস্থ্য ও কারিগরি দপ্তর বাংলার ঘরে ঘরে পরিশ্রুত পানীয় জল পৌঁছে দেওয়ার প্রকল্প চালু করেছে।এর জন্য খরচ হয়েছে প্রায় ২১,১২৫ কোটি টাকা। ২০১১ থেকে ২০১৫ (৩১শে মার্চ পর্যন্ত) ৫৮৭ টি নতুন জল সরবরাহ প্রকল্প চালু হয়েছে। ২০০৭-২০১১ পর্যন্ত যেখানে ১৮৮টি প্রকল্প হয়েছিল। ২০১৬ সালের মে মাসের মধ্যে মোট ৭০৪ টি প্রকল্প ঘষিত হয়ে যাবে।
ইতিমধ্যেই বেশ কয়েকটি জায়গায় বিশুদ্ধ ও পরিশ্রুত পানীয় জলের নতুন পাইপ লাইন চালু হয়েছে। বাঁকুড়ার শালতোড়া , ছাতনা এবং সারেঙ্গা ব্লক, সিউড়ি ১ ও ২ নং ব্লক, বীরভূমের সাইথিয়া ও রায়পুর ব্লক, বেনিয়াগ্রামের হরিহরপাড়া ব্লক, মুর্শিদাবাদের বহরমপুর, পুরুলিয়ার কালাবাজার ও মানবাজারের ২ নং ব্লক এবং উত্তর ২৪ পরগনার মথুরাবলিতে চালু হয়েছে নতুন পাইপলাইন।
