CM to take stock of ministerial work every fortnight

Kolkata, August 17: Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday evening called a meeting at the Town hall which was attended by the ministers, MLAs and MPs. The Chief Minister reiterated her stand to maintain transparency in public life. She advised them to restrain from using their office to influence people which she will not tolerate and would take serious action against those found guilty. “It gives me pleasure to see some of my ministerial colleagues showing positive initiative in their offices while the rest are not taking adequate interest which disappoints me and my message to them is to gear up and be more responsible”, advised Ms. Banerjee.
However, she made it clear that such meeting will commence hereafter on every fortnight and she will take stock of the situation. Sighting an example she said the situation in flood affected arrears is grim “I am watching the situation closely and I will not hesitate to initiate an enquiry if I receive a single complain” added Ms. Banerjee.
On a separate note, the high-power committee set up by the Chief Minister comprising eminent academics and scholars, including former bureaucrat Debabrata Bandopadhyay, has thus suggested an amendment of the V-C appointment clause and is making amends to the University Act to insert a clause that can be invoked to remove the V-C. For now, a vice-chancellor once appointed can't be removed. The high-power committee has also suggested setting up of a search committee by the state government for the selection of the V-C.
