Boost to agricultural marketing, WB govt to build Kisan Mandis at Block level

The West Bengal government is planning to commission more than 20 kisan mandis at block level by January next year.
Kisan Mandis are the places where the farmers will themselves do the farming and sell their products. The state government will only extend the financial assistance.
22-23 kisan mandis are expected to be ready by January. Aimed at preventing distress sale of agriculture products, these mandis will also provide modern storage facilities.
Of the 341 kisan mandis (one in each block), 95 are under construction and expected to be ready in six months.
The Trinamool government has, from the very beginning, paid serious attention to improve amenities for farmers. Modern machineries like power tiller are being distributed in districts. Apart from these, around hundred Polly-Houses are being built across the South 24-parganas. This is a part of pilot project and will cover places like Canning, Goshaba, Pathor Pratima, Bishnupur, Jai Nagar to name a few. This is a new concept and will protect the crops from destruction due to rains, floods, insects and other natural calamities.
