Bangla achieves top spot in rural job scheme
According to data shared by the Union Panchayats and Rural Development Minister in the Rajya Sabha, Bangla is the best best-performing State in implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) – both in terms of allotting jobs (that is, man-days generated) and utilising funds (that is, total project expenditure).
This is the third time in a row that the State has achieved the top spot for this scheme, also known as the 100 Days’ Work Scheme.
The State has topped the list for generating over 77 per cent work so far. This figure is far ahead of the other States’ figures – the second-placed State managing only about 56 per cent work and the third-placed State, about 51 per cent.
This superior performance in 100 Days’ Work is also one of the highlights of the Trinamool Congress’ manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections.
It also mentions that in the past 7-1/2 years, almost Rs 42,126 crore has been spent on 100 Days’ Work, leading to the generation of more than 191 crore man-days.
The annual man-days of nearly 25,000 ‘village resource persons’ associated with 100-Days’ work, Banglar Awas Yojana and other schemes has been increased from 30 days to 50-55 days, and as a result of which, they are able to earn up to Rs 16,000 per year.
