The July 21 mega-public meeting today on the occasion of Shahid Dibas turned into a display of a slice of Bengal.

The stage hosted stalwarts from various fields of arts, sports and culture. People from all walks of life came to the rally in huge numbers to pay tributes to the martyrs of the July 21, 1993 police firing.

Celebrity singers like Nachiketa, Kabir Suman and Indranil Sen enthralled the crowd with their patriotic songs. Several personalities from the Bengali film and television fraternity were present. The Trinamool Congress Chairperson, Mamata Banerjee spoke to each of them individually.

Near the main dais, there was a list of the 13 people who were martyred on July 21, 1993, even as LED screens displayed the proceedings on the dais for the huge gathering of supporters that stretched up to 2km from the venue. Medical camps were set up at various points.

People in all their colours were seen everywhere. From Cooch Behar to Jangalmahal, they came from every corner of Bengal to commemorate July 21.

The Esplanade East area saw colourful dance performances by the Tusu dancers of Jangalmahal, sakhi dancers of Mukutmanipur, tribal dancers of Bankura, chhau dancers of Purulia and dhakis. They won the hearts of the people through their performances.

There were tableaux depicting the history of July 21. People came adorned in the colours of the party – be it cutouts of the party symbol or tricolour shirts and kurtas or decorative headdresses. Teenagers to the elderly braved the possibility of showers to attend the meeting.

It was a spontaneous outpouring of the Maa-Mati-Manush of Bengal.

The Bengal Government will be formally announcing the setting up of an industrial township authority in Howrah in three months.

Surveys are on in full swing at the moment to determine the areas to be brought under the authority. Some 20,000-30,000 acres of Howrah district covering several proposed industrial parks, like ones for foundry, chemicals, plastics and rubber will be notified as part of the industrial township.

The Howrah Industrial Township will be set up on the lines of the Bantala Township and will enable the Government to invest in basic infrastructure for industrial development. The Government is expecting fresh investments to the tune of Rs 46,000 crore in the area.

হাওড়ায় তিন মাসের মধ্যে ইন্ডাস্ট্রিয়াল টাউনশিপ অথরিটি গঠন করবে রাজ্য

আগামী তিন মাসের মধ্যে হাওড়ায় ইন্ডাস্ট্রিয়াল টাউনশিপ অথরিটি গঠন করবে রাজ্য সরকার। কোনকোন জায়গাকে এই টাউনশিপের জায়গায় আনা হবে, সেই বিষয়ে এখন জমি জরিপের কাজ চলছে। এরপর বিনিয়োগকারীরা সেখানে বিনিয়োগ করতে পারবেন। সরকারের আশা, ওই টাউনশিপে ৪৬ হাজার কোটি টাকার বিনিয়োগ প্রস্তাব আসবে।

ইতিমধ্যেই হাওড়ায় বেশ কয়েকটি ইন্ডাস্ট্রিয়াল পার্ক তৈরী করা হয়েছে। এর মধ্যে আছে রবার পার্ক, ফাউন্ড্রি পার্ক, প্ল্যাস্টিক পার্ক। পার্কগুলিকে এক ছাতার তলায় আনার পাশাপাশি নতুন পার্কও গড়ে তোলা হবে এখানে, এমনটাই জানা গিয়েছে।

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conducted an administrative meeting at Digha last week. During the meeting the CM instructed the district administration to take up a number of initiatives to make Digha a better place for tourists.

She pointed out that the sea beach and its surrounding areas must be kept clean and tidy. She asked senior administrative officials to engage workers under the 100-day job guarantee scheme for this initiative.

The security of tourists visiting the beaches must be a top priority, as an increasing number of people have been visiting the Digha beach over the years. She also laid emphasis on increasing nulias (local divers), who often save people from being swept away by the currents while taking a dip in the sea.

Senior police officers in the district were instructed to deploy more police personnel on the beach to check untoward incidents. The CM asked the district administration to ensure that tourists do not face problems during their stay at Digha. She also urged the people to be cautious while bathing in the sea.

Digha has always been a thrust area of the Chief Minister, as a result of which a host of developmental projects have virtually transformed the area into a far better tourist destination than it had been before. The present government has also introduced a helicopter service between Kolkata and Digha.

 

দীঘাকে পর্যটন কেন্দ্র হিসেবে আরও বেশী আকর্ষণীয় করে তুলতে উদ্যোগী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়

গত সপ্তাহে দীঘায় প্রশাসনিক বৈঠক করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। পর্যটকদের জন্যও দীঘাকে আরও অনেক আকর্ষণীয় করে তুলতে একাধিক পদক্ষেপ নিতে প্রশাসনকে নির্দেশ দেন।

তিনি একদম নির্দিষ্ট করে বলেন, সমুদ্রতট ও সংলগ্ন জায়গাকে সর্বদা পরিষ্কার রাখতে। উচ্চপদস্থ প্রশাসন আধিকারিকদের বলেন, এই কাজের জন্য ১০০ দিনের কাজে যুক্ত মানুষদের নিযুক্ত করতে।

যেহেতু প্রতি বছর দীঘায় পর্যটকদের সংখ্যা বেড়েই চলেছে, তিনি বলেন, সমুদ্রতটে আসা পর্যটকদের নিরাপত্তাকে দিতে হবে অগ্রাধিকার। সমুদ্রে অনেকসময়ই অনেক বিপজ্জনক ঘটনা ঘটে থাকে, সেগুলো যাতে না ঘটে তাই তিনি নুলিয়াদের সংখ্যা বাড়ানোয় জোর দেন।

অনভিপ্রেত ঘটনা এড়াতে জেলার উচ্চপদস্থ পুলিশ আধিকারিকদের নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে সমুদ্রতটে আরও বেশী পুলিশকর্মী নিযুক্ত করার। তিনি জেলা প্রশাসনকে নির্দেশ দেন পর্যটকরা যাতে কোনোভাবে কোনও অসুবিধায় না পড়েন যতদিন তাঁরা দীঘায় থাকবেন। পর্যটকদের খুব সতর্ক থাকার অনুরোধ করেন সমুদ্রে স্নান করার সময়।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বরাবরই জোর দিয়েছেন দীঘার উন্নয়নে। দীঘার উন্নয়ন প্রকল্পের কল্যানে আজ দীঘা পেয়েছে এক অনন্য রুপ। এই সরকার কলকাতা ও দীঘার মধ্যে হেলিকপ্টার পরিষেবাও চালু করেছে।

Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is converting two large areas previously used as garbage dumps into parks in Patuli, on the southern fringes of Kolkata. The areas are adjacent to the EM Bypass.

The first area measures 200 feet by 75 feet. It will be located between two lakes and has been named Rabindra Shishu Udyan. A Biswa Bangla logo will adorn the park.

Replicas of Howrah Bridge and Vidyasagar Setu, each measuring 200 feet long and five feet wide, will connect the two lakes, and thus pass through the park. Along the banks of the two lakes will be fibreglass replicas of two scenes – immersion of Goddess Durga and people returning from immersion, and Swami Vivekananda aboard a chariot.

Benches will also be installed, some of them reserved for senior citizens. About 500 coconut, areca nut and other species of trees would border the lakes.

The other area being converted is also an elongated piece of land. It is going to be divided into four parks, two of which will be earmarked for children and senior citizens. Walking and jogging paths will be laid as well in the parks.

পাটুলিতে এবার হাওড়া ব্রিজ ও দ্বিতীয় হুগলি ব্রিজ

সেজে উঠছে পাটুলি এলাকার বাইপাস এবং বাইপাস লিঙ্ক রোডের ধারের বেশ অনেকটা পরিত্যক্ত জায়গা। কলকাতা পুরসভার ১০১ ও ১১০ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের অন্তর্গত ওই পার্ক দু’টি খুব তাড়াতাড়ি কলকাতা পুর এলাকার পরিকল্পিত উদ্যানগুলির তালিকায় ঢুকতে চলেছে।

বাইপাস লিঙ্ক রোডের ধারে ৩০০ মিটার লম্বা এবং ৩৫ মিটার চওড়া জায়গায় হচ্ছে ৪টি পার্ক। নিম, অশ্বত্থ, কৃষ্ণচূড়া, নারকেল, খেজুরের মতো বড় গাছ রয়েছে ওই জায়গায়। সে সব রেখেই ঝোপ জঙ্গল সাফ করে গ্রিল দিয়ে ঘেরা হয়েছে পার্কগুলি। চারটি ভাগ আলাদা করে চিহ্নিত করা হচ্ছে। কোনওটি বয়স্কদের জন্য, কোনওটি শিশুদের জন্য। বিশ্ব বাংলার প্রতীক থাকবে একটিতে।

অন্য পার্কটি তৈরি হচ্ছে কলকাতা পুরসভার ১০১ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডে। বাইপাসের পাটুলির দু’টি ঝিলের মাঝের এই পার্ক ২০০ফুট লম্বা এবং ৭৫ ফুট চওড়া। রবীন্দ্র শিশু উদ্যান নামের ওই পার্কে ঢোকা যাবে ঝিলপার্ক দিয়ে। বাইপাস থেকে বিশ্ববাংলার গ্লোবের সামনে দিয়েও ঢোকা যাবে।

গত দু’বছরে সেজে উঠেছে দু’টি ঝিল। প্রথমদু’টি ঝিলে চারটি ফোয়ারা তৈরি হয়েছে। আরও সাতটি ফোয়ারা তৈরি করা হবে। প্রথম ও দ্বিতীয় ঝিলের উপরে ২০০/৫ ফুট দৈর্ঘ্যের লোহার হাওড়া ব্রিজ ও দ্বিতীয় হুগলি ব্রিজের প্রতিরূপ তৈরি করা হবে। ঝিলের এক দিকে থাকবেদুর্গা ঠাকুর ভাসানের ফাইবারের মোটিফ। ফাইবার দিয়ে অন্য প্রান্তে ফুটিয়ে তোলা হবে ভাসান থেকে ফেরার দৃশ্য।

ফাইবার দিয়ে তৈরি হবে রথে চেপে যাওয়া বিবেকানন্দের মূর্তি। ইতিমধ্যেই বাইপাসের ধারে অনেকগুলি চেয়ার বসানো হয়েছে। ঝিলের ধারে সুপুরি, নারকেল-সহ পাঁচশো গাছ বসানো হচ্ছে।

The precincts of Kalighat Temple, one of the major pilgrimage sites, are going to be renovated. Based on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s instructions, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will be undertaking this work soon. KMC will keep in mind the basic structure of the heritage temple, which will remain unchanged while the renovation work is carried out.

This was decided during a meeting held recently at Nabanna. At a press conference following the meeting, the Chief Minister said, “KMC has been asked to present detailed project reports on various aspects of the renovation work to the State Government by August 31. After that, further meetings would be held to finalise the work”.

The proposed improvements include widening of the entry and exit roads to the temple and the building of multiple entry gates. The shops around the temple would also be given a new look. The KMC project reports for the renovation would take into account the work carried out at the Dakshineswar Temple by the State Government. 

A lot of tourists and pilgrims from the country and abroad visit the Kalighat Temple, especially on Puja days and festivals. Hence, the State Government’s decision for an elaborate revamp the temple premises.

 

কালীঘাট মন্দির চত্বরের সংস্কার করবে কলকাতা পুরসভা

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নির্দেশে এবার কালীঘাট মন্দির চত্বরের সংস্কার করবে কলকাতা পুরসভা। এই নিয়ে নবান্নে বৈঠক করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী ।

কালীঘাট মন্দিরের মূল কাঠামো বজায় রেখেই সংস্কার করবে কলকাতা পুরসভা। সেই কাজ ঠিক করতে কলকাতা পুরসভাকে একাধিক প্রকল্প রিপোর্ট তৈরী করতে বলা হয়েছে। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, ‘‘৩১ আগস্টের মধ্যে কলকাতা পুরসভাকে ওই রিপোর্ট সরকারকে জমা দিতে বলা হয়েছে। তার পরে ফের বৈঠক ডেকে পরবর্তী পদক্ষেপ করা হবে।’’

মন্দির চত্বরে ঢোকা ও বেরোনোর রাস্তা প্রশস্ত করা হবে। দক্ষিণেশ্বরের কথা মাথায় রেখে কলকাতা পুরসভা উন্নয়নের রূপরেখা তৈরী করবে। একাধিক প্রবেশদ্বার তৈরী করা হবে। দোকানগুলিকেও সাজানো হবে। সবটাই নির্ভর করবে পুরসভার নকশার উপরে।

দেশ বিদেশ থেকে বহু মানুষ এখানে আসেন। তাই এই চত্বর সাজানোর উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার।

The Bengal Government will be giving compensation totalling Rs 205 crore to farmers who have incurred heavy losses due to heavy rainfall and hailstorms before the monsoon set in this year. Crops in as many as 11 districts in the State were damaged due to hailstorm this year. Bardhaman remains the worst affected, with farmers there suffering significant losses.

The Government decided to compensate the farmers after carrying out a proper assessment. As per the existing norms, farmers who have suffered 33 per cent or more loss of their total crop are eligible for compensation.

The State Agriculture Department carried out the assessment of losses due to unpredictable rain in the Bengali months of Baisakh (mid-April to mid-May) and Jaistha (mid-May to mid-June). The assessment revealed that in these two months, farmers in 11 districts had incurred a total loss of Rs 205 crore.

Ever since the Trinamool Government took over six years ago, the State has distributed agricultural input subsidy worth Rs 1336.43 crore among 32.83 lakh farmers for crop damage due to natural calamities like hailstorms, unseasonal heavy rain, flooding, drought and other unforeseen situations from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

Bengal is the first state in the country to have waived land tax for farmers. It was announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after the Centre’s sudden decision to demonetise high value notes.

 

কৃষকদের ২০৫ কোটি টাকা ক্ষতিপূরণ দেবেন রাজ্য সরকার

ব্যাপক বৃষ্টি ও শিলাবৃষ্টির কারনে যেসকল চাষিরা ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছেন, তাদের সকলকে ক্ষতিপূরণ দেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার। মোট ক্ষতিপূরণের পরিমাণ ২০৫ কোটি টাকা। প্রাক-বর্ষার কারনে ১১টি জেলায় শস্য নষ্ট হয়েছে। সবথেকে বেশী ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছেন বর্ধমান জেলার চাষিরা।

সঠিক মূল্যায়ন করার পরেই এই ক্ষতিপূরণ দেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে।  এখনকার নিয়ম অনুযায়ী, যে চাষিদের ৩৩ শতাংশ বা তার বেশী শস্য নষ্ট হয়েছে, তারা ক্ষতিপূরণ পাবেন।

রাজ্য কৃষি দপ্তরের মূল্যায়ন অনুযায়ী ১১টি জেলায় বৈশাখ ও জ্যৈষ্ঠ মাসে বৃষ্টির ফলে ক্ষয় ক্ষতির পরিমাণ ২০৫ কোটি টাকা।

তৃণমূল ক্ষমতায় আসার পর গত ছয় বছরে রাজ্য সরকার কৃষিতে ভর্তুকি দিয়েছে মোট ১৩৩৬.৪৩ কোটি টাকা। এই ভর্তুকি পেয়েছেন ৩২.৮৩ লক্ষ চাষি।

রাজ্যগুলির মধ্যে বাংলাই প্রথম কৃষকদের জমির খাজনা মুকুব করেছে। কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের হঠকারী ও অমানবিক নোট বাতিলের সিদ্ধান্তের পর এই ঘোষণা করেছিলেন স্বয়ং মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

The Bengal Government will soon bring out a trilingual Ol Chiki dictionary, the first-of-its-kind in the country. The dictionary has been prepared by the State Backward Classes Welfare Department.

The Ol Chiki script for writing Santhali was created by Raghunath Murmu in the 1920s. Previously, Santhali used to be been written in the Latin script. Ol Chiki has 30 letters. The script is written from left to right.

The dictionary will list translations of 24,800 words – from Santhali to English and Bengali. It will constitute a major step towards popularising the Santhali language.

After coming to power in 2011, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took the initiative to popularise Ol Chiki. At a recent function held at Uttirno, the new auditorium in Kolkata, she felicitated Uday Murmu who got the highest marks in Santhali language in the 2017 Madhyamik examination.

The Chief Minister wants tribal youths to develop by getting modern education, while at the same time preserve their own culture and tradition.

প্রথম ত্রৈভাষিক অলচিকি শব্দকোষ প্রকাশ করবে রাজ্য সরকার

খুব শীঘ্রই অলচিকি লিপির একটি ত্রৈভাষিক শব্দকোষ প্রকাশ করবে রাজ্য সরকার। দেশে এই লিপির এটিই হবে সর্বপ্রথম শব্দকোষ। এই শব্দকোষটি রচনা করেছে রাজ্য অনগ্রসর শ্রেণী কল্যাণ বিভাগ।

এই কোষটিতে ২৪,৮০০ সাঁওতালি শব্দের অনুবাদ থাকবে – প্রথমে অলচিকি থেকে ইংরেজি ও তারপর ইংরেজি থেকে বাংলা। এই উদ্যোগের ফলে স্বাভাবিক ভাবেই আরও জনপ্রিয়তা লাভ করবে সাঁওতালি ভাষা।

১৯২০র দশকে সাঁওতালি ভাষাকে লিপিবদ্ধ করার জন্য এই লিপির সৃষ্টি করেছিলেন রঘুনাথ মুর্মু। এই লিপি লেখা হয়েছিল মূলত লাতিন ভাষার অনুকরনে। সব মিলিয়ে মোট ৩০টি অক্ষর আছে অলচিকি লিপিতে । এই হরফ লেখা হয় বামদিক থেকে ডানদিকে।

২০১১ সালে ক্ষমতায় আসার পর থেকেই মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় অলচিকি লিপির জনপ্রিয়তা বাড়ানোর উদ্যোগ নেন। কিছুদিন আগেই ‘উত্তীর্ণ’ তে এক অনুষ্ঠানে তিনি সম্বর্ধিত করেন উদয় মুর্মুকে যে ২০১৭ সালের মাধ্যমিক পরীক্ষায় সাঁওতালি ভাষায় পেয়েছে সর্বোচ্চ নম্বর।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী চান এই উপজাতি আধুনিক শিক্ষা লাভ করে নিজেদের আরও সমৃদ্ধ করুক এবং পাশাপাশি নিজেদের সংস্কৃতি ও ঐতিহ্যকে বাঁচিয়ে রাখুক।

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written a new slogan for Van Mahotsav, the week-long forest festival to be celebrated by the Government all over the state from July 14.

The slogan – ‘Sabuj Bangla, Biswa Bangla/ Mayer hate chara-gach, poth dekhabe Bangla aaj’ – pays tribute to the greenery of Bengal and how it will help Bengal show the way.

The festival, which will continue till July 20, will be centred around two places – Malbazar in the north of the state and Jhargram in the south. Both places are situated in the midst of forested regions and so are ideal for celebrating Van Mahotsav.

According to the State Forest Minister, 50 lakh saplings would be planted all over the state as part of this festival. All types of trees would be planted. He also said that the aim of the State Government was to plant 3 crore trees in the state every year.

The Forest Department has appealed to schools, colleges, universities, hospitals and health centres to plant trees to enable a green resurgence across the state.

MLAs would be given 1,000 saplings each for distribution among the people of their respective regions. Each person would get five saplings for planting. Those who plant trees and look after them properly would be rewarded as part of the festival by the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation Limited, with first, second and third prize-winners to be given Rs 1 lakh, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.

During the festival week, State Government forestry products like haldi, triphala, citronella oil, honey, among other items, would be available at a 10 per cent discount.

With global warming occurring all over the world, it is specially important to lay stress on the planting and taking care of trees, which are effective combat weapons against ozone depletion. The State Government is also laying a lot of stress on solar power.

বনমহোৎসবের স্লোগান লিখলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী

বনমহোৎসবের স্লোগান লিখলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। ১৪ জুলাই রাজ্যে পালন করা হবে বন মহোৎসব। উৎসব চলবে আগামী ২০ জুলাই পর্যন্ত।

স্লোগানটি হল-‘সবুজ বাংলা, বিশ্ব বাংলা। মায়ের হাতে চারা গাছ, পথ দেখাবে বাংলা আজ।’ দুটি অনুষ্ঠানের একটি হবে উত্তরবঙ্গের মালবাজারে, অন্যটি হবে নতুন জেলা ঝাড়গ্রামে।

বনমন্ত্রী বলেন, মুখ্যমন্ত্রী গোটা রাজ্যকে সবুজের মলাটে ঢেকে দিতে চান। এই বন মহোৎসবে আমরা রাজ্যজুড়ে ৫০ লক্ষ গাছ লাগাব। এখানে ফল, ফুল–সহ বিভিন্ন ধরনের গাছ থাকছে। যেখানে গাছ কম সেখানে বেশি করে লাগানো হবে। লক্ষ্য রাজ্যে এই বছরে তিন কোটি গাছ লাগানো।

স্কুল, কলেজ, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, হাসপাতাল, স্বাস্থ্যকেন্দ্র যাদের জায়গা আছে তারা গাছ লাগানোর জন্য বন দপ্তরে আবেদন করতে পারেন।

প্রত্যেক বিধায়ককে ১ হাজার করে গাছের চারা দেওয়া হচ্ছে। প্রতি চারার দাম নেওয়া হবে ২ টাকা। ১৪ থেকে ২০ জুলাই, বনজ জিনিসের ওপর ১০ শতাংশ ছাড় দেওয়া হবে। হলুদ, ত্রিফলা, সিট্রেনোলা অয়েল–সহ আরও নানান জিনিস। যারা ভাল গাছ লাগাবেন এবং পরিচর্যা করবেন তাঁদের পশ্চিমবঙ্গ বনোন্নয়ন নিগম পুরস্কৃত করবে। প্রথম পুরস্কার ১ লাখ টাকা। দ্বিতীয় পুরস্কার ৭৫ হাজার। তৃতীয় পুরস্কার ৫০ হাজার। সঙ্গে দেওয়া হবে একটি স্মারক।

বিশ্ব উষ্ণায়নের প্রভাবে আবহাওয়ার পরিবর্তন হচ্ছে। ফলে গোটা দুনিয়া গাছ লাগানোর ওপর ও সৌরবিদ্যুৎ ব্যবহারের ওপর বিশেষ জোর দিয়েছে। রাজ্য সরকারও এই পদক্ষেপ ইতিমধ্যেই নিয়ে ফেলেছে।
