Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday inaugurated an archive of Mahasweta Debi’s great works, personal collections and prestigious awards, made in her home by the government.

“Mahasweta Debi devoted her entire life in the service of the poor and the needy. We are indeed very proud of her,” the Chief Minister said during the inauguration function.

A stalwart of civil rights movement for the tribal people, after the 2006 Singur movement lead by Mamata Banerjee, Mahasweta Debi, over 80 years of age at the time, was always beside the Trinamool Chairperson, who turned to her regularly for guidance.

The writer was the prime face on the dais during the yearly July 21 Martyr’s Day programme organised by the Trinamool Congress.

Mahasweta Debi has won both the Sahitya Akademi and Jnanpith awards for literary excellence. She is also a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay award and the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian honour. On 2011, she was conferred with the State’s highest civilian honor, Banga Bibhushan.

মহাশ্বেতা দেবীর অসাধারন রচনা, ব্যাক্তিগত সংগ্রহ ও তাঁর প্রাপ্ত পুরষ্কারগুলি নিয়ে নির্মিত হল একটি সংগ্রহশালা। মঙ্গলবার মহাশ্বেতা দেবীর বাসস্থানে নির্মিত এই সংগ্রহশালার উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “মহাশ্বেতা দেবী তাঁর সারা জীবন দরিদ্র মানুষের সেবায় উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন। আমরা ওনার জন্য খুব গর্ব অনুভব করি।”

আদিবাসীদের জন্য নাগরিক অধিকারের আন্দোলন, পরবর্তীকালে সিঙ্গুরের জমি আন্দোলন সহ বিভিন্ন জনআন্দোলনে অগ্রণী ভূমিকায় ছিলেন। সবসময় তিনি মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের পাশে থেকেছেন। ২১শে জুলাই তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসের শহীদ দিবসের মঞ্চে তিনিই হতেন প্রধান বক্তা।

সাহিত্যের জন্য মহাশ্বেতা দেবী অ্যাকাদেমী ও জ্ঞ্যানপীঠ পুরষ্কার পেয়েছিলেন। তিনি রামন ম্যাগসেসে ও পদ্মবিভূষণ পুরষ্কারেও ভূষিত হন। ২০১১ সালে তাঁকে রাজ্যের সর্বোচ্চ নাগরিক সম্মান বঙ্গবিভূষণ পুরস্কার প্রদান করা হয়।

Bengal Chief Minister on Tuesday inaugurated yet another attraction at Newtown’s Eco Park – a Japanese Forest.

Eco Park renamed as Prakriti Tirtha by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the most sought after tourist destination of Kolkata in New Town. The footfall of visitors has been more than 53 lakh since its inception, four years ago.

Statues of laughing Buddha will welcome the visitors. There is a three layer pagoda along with a monastery, drawing inspiration from the Ryonji monastery. There is also be a meditation room. The forest will also house lanterns and lights to give the area the look of mini Japan.

The Eco Park which stands on 480 acre of land with a 104 acre of water body surrounding it was inaugurated by Mamata Banerjee on December 29, 2012. It is divided into three broad areas- ecological zone comprising wetlands, grassland and urban forest, theme garden and open space and urban recreation spaces.

ইকো পার্কে জাপানি উদ্যানের উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী

মঙ্গলবার নিউটাউনের ইকোপার্কে একটি জাপানি ফরেস্টের উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। এই ধরনের উদ্যান এই দেশে একেবারেই প্রথম। কলকাতার পর্যটন কেন্দ্রগুলির মধ্যে এই মুহূর্তে এক জনপ্রিয় কেন্দ্র হল ইকো পার্ক। মাত্র চার বছরে এখানে ৫৩ লাখেরও বেশি মানুষের সমাগম হয়েছে।

এই উদ্যানে লাফিং বুদ্ধর মূর্তি দ্বারা পর্যটকদের স্বাগত জানানো হবে। একটি মনাস্টেরী সহ ত্রিস্তরীও প্যাগোডা থাকবে যা রিওঞ্জি মনাস্টেরী আদলে তৈরি। এখানে একটি ধ্যান কক্ষও থাকবে। জায়গাটি ছোট ছোট লন্ঠন ও আলো দ্বারা সাজানো হবে জাপানের মত পরিবেশ তৈরি করতে।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী ২৯সে ডিসেম্বর ২০১২ সালে ইকো পার্ক উদ্বোধন করেন। পুরো অঞ্চলটি তিন ভাগে বিভক্ত – বাস্তুসংস্থান সংক্রান্ত, থিম উদ্যান ও বিনোদনের জন্য একটি ভাগ রাখা হয়েছে।
