Milan Mela, the primary exhibition cum convention centre of Kolkata, will be turned into an international standard trade centre in the next 18 months.
The state government has decided to develop a fully air-conditioned structure on a major portion of the 18.40 acre of land. With conversion to an international standard trade centre, all major events can be organised under one roof at any time of a year.
Besides taking steps to give a new shape to Mila Mela Ground, the Mamata Banerjee government is also developing three major infrastructures at Alipore — Saujanya, Uttirnya and Dhanadhanya. A Biswa Bangla Convention Centre is also coming up at Newtown.
Saujanya is a convention centre where major seminars and state functions would be hosted in the city itself. There will also be accommodation facilities for the state guests Saujanya. Uttirnya and Dhanadhanya will house ampi-theatres and indoor stadium with a multi-level car parking lot in front.
মিলন মেলা প্রাঙ্গনকে আন্তর্জাতিক মানের ট্রেড সেন্টার হিসেবে গড়বে রাজ্য
আগামী ১৮ মাসের মধ্যে মিলন মেলা প্রাঙ্গনের আধুনিকীকরণ হবে, গড়া হবে আন্তর্জাতিক মানের পরিকাঠামো, সিদ্ধান্ত পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার। এই মেলা প্রাঙ্গনের ১৮.৪০ একর জমির বেশিরভাগ অংশই হবে শীতাতপ নিয়ন্ত্রিত।
কলকাতায় কোনও বিদেশি প্রতিনিধি এলে সরকারি বৈঠক করার কোনও নির্দিষ্ট কেন্দ্র এতদিন ছিল না। সেই চাহিদা পূরণ করতে উদ্যোগী হয়েছেন স্বয়ং মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। মিলন মেলা প্রাঙ্গনকে একটি নতুন রূপ দেওয়ার পাশাপাশি তৈরী হচ্ছে ‘সৌজন্য’, ‘উত্তীর্ণ’ এবং ‘ধনধান্য’। নিউ টাউনে বিশ্ববাংলা কনভেনশন সেন্টারও তৈরী হচ্ছে।
দিল্লির হায়দ্রাবাদের হাউজের আদলে ‘আলিপুরে’ তৈরি হছে ‘সৌজন্য ‘। এর পাশাপাশি ২০০০ আসনের ওপেন থিয়েটার কেন্দ্র ‘উত্তীর্ণ’ এবং ইনডোর স্টেডিয়াম ‘ধনধান্য’ তৈরি করছে পূর্ত দফতর।
