Sushmita Dev’s Zero Hour mention on the lack of industries in the Barak Valley of Assam
Thank you, Sir, for the opportunity to speak on an important demand of the area of Barak Valley of Assam.Way back in October 2020, the Government of India had assured the State of Assam two Multi-modal Logistics Parks. The work for one has started in Bongaigaon, but till today, the Multi-modal Logistics Park promised in Silchar, Barak Valley, the work has not started. To the best of my information, in April 2021, the DPR was ready. A feasibility report has also been made, but on the ground no action has been taken by the Government of India or the State of Assam. Sir, in the region of Barak Valley, there are three districts and the population is around 45 lakhs. We don’t have a single industry and the only heavy industry, the Hindustan Paper Corporation, which used to function in
Barak Valley, was shut down after the Modi Government came to power, which increased the rate of unemployment in three districts. The Prime Minister himself had promised that there will be industrialization in this area, but it was not done…
