TMYC President Abhishek Banerjee slams the Centre and Left at Dumdum rally

Trinamool Youth Congress President and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee today held a mass meeting at Lichubagan Math, Gorabazar in Dum Dum.

The rally was organised by the North 24 Parganas Youth Congress where various leaders of the party highlighted the developmental programmes of the Maa Mati Manush Government and also condemned the campaign of slander and misinformation by the combined opposition of CPI(M)-BJP-Congress.

Abhishek Banerjee, who was the chief speaker of the rally, slammed the Opposition for their canards against Mamata Banerjee. “The more you attack her, the stronger she will become with the blessings of the people,” he said.

“We have strengthened every step of administration, from gram sabhas to the top most level. We want to ensure that development can flow freely to the people,” commented the TMYC President.

He added that Mamata Banerjee had fulfilled all the promises made in the Manifesto. Taking a dig at the BJP he said that the party in power at Centre is fooling people in the name of ‘achhe din’.

“Today the biggest challenge for the people of India is to bring back Modi ji from his foreign pleasure trips,” he remarked.

Just because someone is elected to from govt at Centre doesn’t mean they can tell us what to eat and what to wear, he added while slamming the Centre for rising prices of essential commodities and recent hike in rail fare.

Abhishek Banerjee maintained that TMC believed in communal harmony. “TMC stands for Temple, Mosque, Church” he commented.

IIM Calcutta to associate with State MSME Dept for ‘Egiye Bangla’

The West Bengal government is planning to focus on encouraging start-ups. As the first step, a television show has been lined up with a prominent channel which will be hosted by former skipper and Bengal’s icon Sourav Ganguly. The Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C) will join hands with the state to identify prospective start up entrepreneurs through the programme.

As one of the top B-schools in the country, IIM-C will also help the winners set up incubation facilities inside the innovation park on campus. The seed funding for the business plans identified as having prospects in future will be given by the MSME department.

More than 1,500 applications from across the state have been received. One of the criterion for selection was that the applicant needed to be based in Bengal. A business proposal that has been implemented and has an existing unit not more than three years old can also apply. The applications will be evaluated by a team comprising faculty members from IIM-C, along with industrialists. Those shortlisted will be asked to demonstrate the business proposal in person before the panel of judges. A final list of participants will then be drawn up.

In the show –Egiye Bangla -participants will showcase their business plans on which they will be judged by a panel consisting of members from the business fraternity.

Participants can make business proposals on any industry apart from gambling, tobacco, liquor, explosives and fire arms. The parameters on which the applicants will be judged will include novelty of the business plan. Any other existing company which may have implemented a similar business idea will also be judged. The idea of the show is to offer a platform to budding entrepreneurs.

In 2013, the MSME department and IIM-C had signed an agreement during the synergy meet, where the B-school agreed to be a knowledge partner in the entire journey of Shilpa Karun Bangla Gorun. Egiye Bangla is the culmination of a combined effort.

Youths from Bengal prefer to go outside the state for their higher education. People here do not take entrepreneurship as a feasible option. Historically, we prefer desk jobs or a stable job with the government sector over taking the adventurous route in career. Hence, IIM-C wanted to collaborate with the state government to inculcate aspirations among the youth, bringing entrepreneurship in as another option apart from the regular jobs.

The reality show is scheduled to be telecast from December.

Thousands throng Kali Puja at WB CM’s residence

Hours before people began arriving at her Kalighat home in Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee could be seen walking briskly from one place to another, ensuring that all details were in place — the seating arrangement for those who’d eat bhog, the newly installed blue-and-white metal partition for people to walk through and security arrangements to ensure that there was no stampede.

She also spent time with senior citizens from ‘Nabaneer’.

Afterwards, the CM cooked bhog in a small kitchen in her house. “Every year, she cooks a bhog of khichdi with the other women in her family and then they break their fast collectively. Even the bhog that’s cooked for the masses has to be approved by her,” said a family member.

‘Smart Anandababu’ – Icon of smart city project

The smart city initiatives of New Town and Salt Lake have already grabbed the attention of mayors from some countries. The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) is now planning to follow the ‘Buladi’ route to reach out to residents of New Town to have a direct interface with the citizens in a smart way.

Similar to the state’s counter-AIDS icon, the authorities are planning ‘Smart Anandababu’ who will always be there to listen, give details and refer it to the relevant section through a web-based software at the back-end and give feedback to the concerned residents.

Officials said that resolving citizen’s grievances is one of the main focus areas of the smart city strategy. While many are talking of online web portals, complaint monitoring software and GISbased photo shoots through smartphone applications, officials said that the interaction needs to have a human face, a person people can relate to and hence the ‘ Anandababu’ ídea has been conceptualised.

To make the system more effective, the person on the other side of telephone will be backed up with a control room that will provide time bound results on the actions being taken by giving sms based feedback to the complainant on his or her mobile phone.

The authorities are also holding ‘Smart Fridays’ where interactions are taking place with citizens of the township to discuss on the smart city initiatives.

The main projects comprises a number of road and highway stretch widening and strengthening work, to construct 23 railway overbridges (ROB) on several national and state highway stretches on engineering, procurement and construct (EPC) mode for which the authorities plan to invite bids to take up work within the next one month.

Exclusive: Mamata Banerjee’s latest poem ‘Intolerance’

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee is a popular writer and a poet. She started writing in 1995 and has written 53 books so far. In2015, seven of her books were published at the Kolkata International Book Fair.

Her books feature on the bestseller list for years. The West Bengal Chief Minister, in spite of her hectic schedule, manages to find time to pen poetry or paint pictures.

Here is her latest poem on ‘Intolerance’:
