Mamata: Let CPM be in wilderness for 10 years

In a live interview to a private television channel on Wednesday, Trinamool Congress chief Ms. Mamata Banerjee was confident Trinamool would deliver if it won in the election. “If we come to power, we will have to run the administration. But we will not do it with bulldozers. We will work by taking people into confidence. CPM will not be able to stop us even if they try. They have misruled for 34 years, let them be in wilderness for 10 years,” Ms. Banerjee said. She said the opposition parties did not stand in the way of efforts of the present government till Singur and Nandigram happened. “In case of Singur, the government did not honour an agreement signed in the presence of the governor.” The railway minister said she had started the process for creation of 1,67,000 jobs in the railways and taken steps to set up new railway factories at Noapara, Kanchrapara and Sankrail. In some projects, Planning Commission clearance had been obtained and tenders also floated, she added. She accused the CPM of taking no interest in Metro Railway in the past. “The CPM controlled the last UPA government but did nothing to build the infrastructure of Metro. Why new rakes were not bought? Why good officers were not posted to Metro?” she asked, saying she was trying to recast the Metro but it would take some time. “I can’t bring new rakes in a day.” On joint operations she was firm on her stand. “We will stand by the people of the state. At the same time, we will abide by the principle of joint responsibility in the cabinet. I am against snapping the alliance with Congress,” she said, accusing the CM of slapping cases indiscriminately against opposition party members after promising earlier that there would be no victimization on political grounds.
