KMC to add more space for night parking of vehicles

Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to increase space for night parking of vehicles. It will result in enabling parking for a total of 2,600 vehicles, up from current space for 2,181 vehicles.

Currently there are 193 night parking lots, which is set to increase soon. All 25 private agencies now involved in parking have been asked to mark new zones.

According to the KMC parking wing, there are two reasons for this decision. One is to get over the problem of illegal parking, what with the number of vehicles increasing steadily, and the other is the heeding to a demand from the public for a single-window legalised parking format in front of their homes.

According to KMC rules, the time slot for night parking is 10 PM to 7 AM, and each space comes for a fee of Rs 450 per month. The penalty for violation is Rs 1,000.
