Increase in agricultural land in Bangla in the last six years

The State Government has converted non-agricultural land into agricultural land to the tune of 54,770 hectares (or 1.35 lakh acres). This information was shared by the Agriculture Minister in the State Assembly on November 26.
In the agriculture year 2016-17, the amount of agricultural land in Bangla was 56,32,595 hectares. Food production has also seen an increase, compared to 2010-11. Back then it was 1.48 crore tonnes. The food production in 2016-17 was 1.75 crore tonnes.
The minister also said that Bangla was surging ahead in organic farming. 120 such clusters have been formed. Seeds of 50-80 varieties of paddy have been distributed in 13 districts. Cultivation of aromatic rice was being done in 12,500 hectares of land. Laboratories have been set up for testing the quality of chemical fertilisers. More than 500 specialists travel across the State to collect samples.
