Healthcare skills to be introduced in school syllabus as an elective

The Education Department has decided to introduce ‘Health Care’ as an ‘optional elective’ subject at the higher secondary level from next year.
With the rapid change in lifestyles, people are getting various lifestyles diseases. To detect them, certain symptoms need to be kept track of at all times, on a regular basis, including blood pressure, blood sugar etc.
As a result, instruments to measure them are often kept at home. Many of these instruments are available at affordable prices at pharmacies. A thermometer is only the most basic of these. A nebuliser might also be needed at a home for oxygen supply.
Part of the syllabus would be child care, elder care, pregnant care, menstrual hygiene, pregnancy prevention, blood pressure measurement, blood sugar test, blood donation and prescriptions for treating various diseases.
