Bangla has the largest number of govt hospital beds in the country

The Central Government report, ‘National Health Profile 2018’ has revealed a data which reflects on the huge progress that Bangla under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee (and health minister well) has made.
The report says that the State has the highest number of beds in India in terms of government hospitals – 78,566. This covers both rural and urban hospitals. The number of beds in hospitals in rural areas is also the highest – 58,882. The numbers, according to the report, are as per data collected till January 1, 2015.
The State Government’s latest report, ‘Health on the March 2015-16’, which presents data as of March 31, 2017, paints a better picture still. The total number of beds in government hospitals stands at 83,859.
Just the 42 super-speciality hospitals, a dream project of the Chief Minister, have added a total of 13,800 beds. According to the secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, in 2017, 12 crore patients visited the outdoor departments of the State Government hospitals.
Mamata Banerjee has brought about a lot of change in the healthcare infrastructure of the State. From free beds to diagnostic services to fair-price medicines to the setting up of super-speciality hospitals, and waiting huts for far-flung areas – the changes have been numerous. And there has been a commensurate improvement in the various health parameters as well.
