Bangla Govt to start measles rubella vaccination (MRV) programme

The State Health Department will start a measles rubella vaccination (MRV) programme for 2.5 crore children. The programme is meant to eliminate both measles and German measles, or rubella. It will be launched from the third week of November, for a period of two months.

The vaccines will be administered free of cost to all children aged between 9 months and 15 years. The programme will run across the state in schools, at community sites and in health facilities.

Both measles and rubella are killer diseases among children. India accounts for 36 per cent of the 1,34,200 deaths globally due to measles infection every year, and for 40 to 50,000 of the over 1 lakh babies born with CRS.
