WB Govt opens control room for earthquake relief

West Bengal Government today started a round-the-clock control room at Nabanna after another earthquake jolted parts of Bengal.

The helpline numbers launched by West Bengal Government are: 1070 and (033) 22143526.

“Earthquake has once again struck many parts of our State and other parts of the country and abroad. We are with all our brothers & sisters. I appeal to our people to maintain calm. Our Government will provide all support.”

Single-window clearance within 15 days to industry applications in Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee chaired a meeting at Nabanna where it was decide to provide single-window clearance within 15 days to industry applications in urban conglomerates where the State Government has already identified land. They include land parcels in Kolkata, Asansol, Durgapur and Kalyani.

State finance minister Dr Amit Mitra and the chief secretary of the State attended the meeting.

While taking stock of land availability, the West Bengal Chief Minister also decided to waive the 7.5-cottah ceiling for possession of vacant urban land under the Urban Land Ceiling Act, 1976. The State Government has cleared a few IT industry and MSME proposals in urban conglomerates. The Government also plans to clear building plans over the stipulated 14.5 metres, but only on land allotted for industrial purposes.

Under the system, an industrialist seeking exemption under ULCA for setting up industrial units in urban areas will get the clearance within 15 days from the government. A single-window clearance has been put in place to accord necessary clearance to building plans for industry exceeding the prescribed height.

The State Government has already identified ten towns across the state for developing as smart cities. It has also decided to allow more floor area ratio (FAR) for different types of buildings.

West Bengal Government to regulate brick kilns in the State

The West Bengal Government has decided to bring the brick kilns under strict regulation. In a high level meeting held at Nabanna it was decided these kilns should be made at a safe distance from railway tracks and roads.

Keeping in line with environmental issues, trees have to be planted around brick kilns, and to build new kilns clearance has to be taken from agriculture, irrigation and environmental ministries of the State. The regulation is being adopted to also put a check on soil and river bank erosion.

The Government has also decided to guide the farmers around brick kilns with the kind of crops which will grow best in their areas. Restrictions of unauthorised brick kilns is the first step towards implementation of these regulations.

 

West Bengal Govt forms India’s first Transgender Development Board

Dr Sashi Panja, Minister-In-Charge for Women and Child Development, Government of West Bengal addressed a Press Conference at Nabanna and announced the State Cabinet has passed the constitution of the Transgender Development Board, the first such Board in the country.

While addressing the Press Conference the Minister said that the constitution of the Board was done on the initiative of the West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee who is very much concerned for this section of the people. The transgender community are often seen to be deprived of education, employment and health related issues.

“They are reduced to begging on the streets and face other forms socio-economic discrimination,” said the Minister.

She said that the representatives of the transgender community have been meeting the Chief Minister on this issue.

To address these problems the Chief Minister came up with an idea to constitute a Board for Transgender Development. The Board will have 12 persons, to be headed by a Chairperson. This Board will represent various transgender communities in the state and coordinate with the State’s Coordination Committee, which will be headed by the Minister of Women and Child Development.

The Board will distribute Identification Cards to the members of the transgender community, taking care of education, health and employment related issues. They will uphold all Rights as Citizens of India for their people and take care of the population census too.

The State Cabinet has passed this very important decision and has given a green signal to set up this Development Board, which is the first of its kind in the country.

Culprits are a disgrace to society: WB CM on Ranaghat

West Bengal Chef Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee today addressed a press conference at Nabanna, before leaving for Ranaghat.

She reiterated her commitment to swift probe and said that the culprits will be nabbed no matter where they are.

She went on to state that the culprits have no humanity in them and are a disgrace to the society.

The Chief Minister requested the media houses to address this issue with sensitivity and assured that the best team of CID is investigating the matter.

Calling the survivor of the ghastly incident a mother figure, she said, “Our sentiments are with her.”

WB CM forms core committees for speedy implementation of Bengal Global Summit proposals

Following up on the success of the Bengal Global Business Summit, and to expedite the implementation of investment proposals received during the summit, West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee felicitated the industrialists, members of the Chambers of Commerce and the officials who worked hard to make the summit a great success.

The Chief Minister chaired a meeting at Nabanna on Wednesday where she formed sectoral committees for the core sectors during the meeting.

The nine newly formed sectoral committees include that of Manufacturing, Health-Education, Tourism-Entertainment, Food & Food Processing, Urban Development, Infrastructure & Power, Financial Sector, Transport and MSME. These committees will work on the proper channeling investments following the time frame of the Administrative Calendar.

 

WB CM to review the progress of rural development at Nabanna today

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee will chair a review meeting today at Nabanna with all the District Magistrates and district Sabhadhipatis. She will review the status of the developmental works that has been taken up across the State.

Finance, Commerce and Industry Minister Amit Mitra, and Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Subrata Mukherjee will be present in this meeting.

Reports of the works done in all the districts have already been collected from the Zila Parishads. The Chief Minister will review the progress of various schemes for rural development, such as 100 Days’ Work Scheme, Rural Road projects, Geetanjali Housing Scheme among others.

The focus of the meeting will be the work done by the Zilla Parishads in recent times. All the Additional District Magistrates who are in charge of the Zilla Parishads will also take part in the meeting.

Investment

Investments pour in for road and port sector in Bengal

Union Minister for shipping, road transport and highways today called on West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna. They addressed a joint press conference where announcements of massive investments in ports and roads sector in West Bengal were made.

WB CM said that the state government would provide whatever support was required and extend full cooperation. “Politics is politics and development is development”, she said.

Investments pour in

The Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) along with the state government would construct a port in the Sagar Islands at an investment of Rs 12,000 crore. There is also a need to construct a bridge or an underground tunnel for this purpose in addition to a railway line, and a consultant will be appointed for this.

Additional investments of Rs 3350 crore in the port sector like floating storages, dry bulk cargo handling terminal among others has also been sanctioned.

The Union Minister said that WB CM had assured of full cooperation from the state government side and these investments would boost the economy of the state.

Rs 6000 crore have been sanctioned for the roads sector in the state.
The Chief Minister also invited the Union Minister to attend the Bengal Global Summit to be held in Kolkata from 6-8 January, 2015.
