Trinamool reposes faith on its alliance with people
The message from a core committee meeting at Trinamool Bhavan on Monday was loud and clear; the alliance is welcome but if required the party is ready to face the polls in West Bengal on its own. “The party is ready for elections without an alliance, even if it is held tomorrow or day after. The party is dependent on the alliance with people,†opposition leader Partha Chatterjee said at a news conference after the meeting chaired by Mamata Banerjee. “We favour an alliance with the Congress under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, but we oppose the Siliguri model in the name of alliance.†Congress and Trinamool had won the Siliguri Municipal Corporation election together, but after declaration of results, Congress formed the board with support from the Left Front. The party also decided that a delegation would be sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against “terror sponsored by CPM in different parts of the stateâ€. “We will produce before the PM documentary evidence,†said Chatterjee. Trinamool members expressed concern at the galloping prices of essential commodities. “We are opposed to this kind of price rise… we are also against increase in prices of petrol and diesel. We have expressed our concern over the situation on earlier occasions also,†he said. The Trinamool chief and other senior leaders of the party also paid homage to the body of Sanatan Hembram.
