Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated the seventh edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre (BBCC) in New Town. She gave a 47-minute speech, touching on the economy, politics, society and other topics.
She began her speech by thanking each industrialist who was on the dais. She also thanked the representatives of 35 countries who are taking part in the two-day conclave aimed at bringing investments to the state.

Everybody appreciates that Bengal is a land of culture, heritage, education, women’s empowerment and farmer’s rights. There is no discrimination here.
We celebrate Christmas like Durga Puja in Bengal. I have personally attended Ramadan gatherings and performed the rituals with Muslims. They also invite me during the celebrations (the prayers on Red Road during Id). I go and take part in the festivals of Jains and Sikhs.
Former India cricket captain-turned-businessman Sourav Ganguly will be a brand ambassador for the state.
Bengal’s economy is growing at 8.41 per cent and its GDP would touch $212 billion this fiscal.
At the last six editions of BGBS, proposals amounting to $190 billion have been received, and projects worth $121 billion have already been launched or are at various stages of implementation.
We have identified 12 areas that can be game-changers for Bengal. These policies will facilitate the process and Bengal will reach new heights
We are ready with the Tajpur deep sea port. It’s a project worth Rs 25,000 crore. I invite all to participate in the tender process.
There is only one tax in the country, and the Central government collects and gives the states their share. But we are not getting our share.
There is a rumour that Bengal is a place of violence. This is a narrative of some political parties.
