TMC got 41 per cent of the votes even after SIR: Abhishek Banerjee

On the evening of Friday, June 12, 2026, All India Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee spoke to the media in front of his residence in Kalighat.
“On Thursday, right after returning from Delhi, I went to the CID office at Bhavani Bhavan. They questioned me for five-and-a-half hours. I cooperated. They had asked me to appear in person. I went before 6 pm. I will go again on the 14th. I haven’t fled. I have always cooperated with the investigation. I am providing all possible cooperation,” he said.
He further said: “Today, there was a meeting at our party leader’s house. Our MPs were present. While the meeting was going on, a team from the CID came [to my house] to serve a notice in a separate case. I told my personal secretary Partha accept the notice. I requested the CID to wait if they wanted to hand the notice over to me personally.
“I came here by 7.15 pm but found them gone. They can’t just come whenever they want. If they inform early, I’ll be here, and if they clearly state that they cannot hand it to anyone else. If they want to come, they can, and if they don’t, they’ll have to wait. I am not evading the investigation.”
On Thursday, Abhishek Banerjee had expressed anger at journalists over news reports about his interrogation at the CID office.
“The questions I was asked were leaked to the media. Since I haven’t said anything, the information must have come from the investigating agency. Therefore, the purpose of the investigation is not right. I will go to court over this.”
On Friday, the CID went to his home in the afternoon to serve a notice in a case filed against his comment made during the recent assembly election campaigning on playing DJ music.
On this issue, he said, “I said this [on playing DJ music] during the election. At that time, the responsibility for law and order in the state was with the Election Commission, but the Commission did not take any action.
“Now, if a case is filed against me after the election for this comment, a case should also be filed against Amit Shah for his comment about hanging Trinamool workers upside down and beating them up.
“I have been seeing the [BJP’s] breaking of parties for a long time. Even after purging 30 lakh names from the voter lists through SIR, Trinamool still got 41 per cent of the vote share, or 2 crore 60 lakh votes. The party will take up the issues of these people. It will not give up an inch of ground,” he further said.
