India’s first urban forest to be created in Kolkata
The State Government agency, Housing Infrastructure Corporation (HIDCO) has decided to create, in collaboration with a private organisation, the country’s first urban forest in Kolkata.
This will form an effective effort to combat pollution in the city. The two organisations together have come up with the campaign, ‘Heal the Earth, clean is our birthright’ to popularise the effort.
The urban forest, which will be spread over 4 acres of land, will come up in Rajarhat, on the outskirts of the city. At least 8,500 trees will be planted in this man-made urban forest, which will produce 9,54,500 kg oxygen and will absorb 5,27,000 kg carbon dioxide.
Apart from maintaining the balance of our environment, there will be opportunities to buy trees. A small tree will cost Rs 500. One can even buy and plant it in the urban forest. And in that case, the person’s name will be written on that tree.
রাজারহাটে গড়ে উঠবে দেশের প্রথম ‘আর্বান ফরেস্ট’
ক্রমাগত বেড়ে চলা দূষণ ও বিশ্ব উষ্ণায়নের ফলে সাধারণ মানুষের প্রাণ এখন ওষ্ঠাগত। এই পরিস্থিতে কল্লোলিনী কলকাতার বাসিন্দাদের জন্য খুশির খবর নিয়ে এল হিডকো। একটি বেসরকারি সংস্থার সাথে হাত মিলিয়ে এবার রাজারহাটে হিডকো গড়বে দেশের প্রথম ‘আর্বান ফরেস্ট’।
এই উদ্যোগের স্লোগান হল ‘Heal the Earth, clean is our birthright’। রাজারহাটে ৪ একর জমির ওপর ৮,৫০০ বৃক্ষরোপণ করা হবে। এই ম্যান-মেড ফরেস্টে ৯,৫৪,০০০ কেজি অক্সিজেন উৎপন্ন হবে। ৫,২৭,০০০ কেজি কার্বন ডাইঅক্সাইড শুষে নেবে এই গাছগুলি।
একদিকে যেমন পরিবেশ রক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে এটি একটি যুগান্তকারী পদক্ষেপ, তেমনই থাকছে আরও চমক। ইচ্ছুক মানুষেরা এখানে গাছ কিনে পুঁততে পারবেন। একটি ছোট গাছের দাম ৫০০ টাকা। সেক্ষেত্রে গাছের ওপর ফলকে তার নাম থাকবে।
